Chapter 359
"I want..." His lips curved, his dark eyes resembling a deep sea, gazing at her. The ambiguous mixture of heat and sweat made her head spin. Winnie's heart skipped a beat, wondering why he looked at her with such tenderness.
"I want to be with you, Winnie." Lawrence nearly blurted it out, his eyes moist with emotion, but a last shred of rationality held him back. He couldn't afford to skip his wedding scheduled for the next day, and there were things left unsaid, things now impossible to express.
He sighed with a bitter smile, regretfully closing his eyes. "Winnie, why did we end up like this? If three years ago, you didn't help your uncle betray me, and then betray me again and again We wouldn't be in this situation today."
Winnie's heart stopped, and the blush on her face gradually faded. The things that had happened three years ago was a forbidden topic that could not be brought up.
She glanced at him, seemingly exhausted and asleep. Winnie took out the silver needle once again, gently piercing it into his neck, causing him to topple to one side.
Rubbing her almost crushed arms and legs, Winnie forcefully got out of bed and quickly picked up the scattered clothes and wrapped herself in his oversized dress shirt.
She then walked out, swiftly tip-toeing. The CEO's office door was tightly closed, locked by him. In the quiet surroundings, only Winnie was left.
The sound of her heartbeat grew louder and faster as she walked toward the drawers of the desk. She put on her gloves and opened the drawer. The "document" was not properly hidden when she hurriedly placed it there, revealing a corner. Winnie placed it under other documents, hiding it so that he would never find it. However, her heart ached fiercely.
Lawrence's words that he had uttered earlier, filled with pain and regret, echoed in her head, "If you hadn't helped your uncle betray me... We wouldn't be in this situation." Three years ago, she had manipulated his company in a despicable manner. Fast forward to three years later, she was going to employ the same tactics once again. She wondered if their two sons would be harmed if she were truly imprisoned by him.
Winnie lowered her eyelashes, appearing as though they were trembling. Her fingers clenched tightly, turning white, while she engaged in an internal battle. After a moment, she closed the drawer, neatly placing the documents back into the folder, and quickly left the desk.
Quietly heading back to the lounge, she aimed to retrieve the torn clothes. However, the man abruptly awakened, massaging his stiff neck as he reached for the ringing phone. It became evident who was calling, as if he had instantly sobered up and snapped to attention. Despite his arms being marked with scratches, he fumbled for his electronic watch, murmuring, "Darcy... please don't cry."
Lawrence had a splitting headache and massaged his temples as he stood up. The phone had poor sound quality, and Winnie heard a woman crying and sobbing.
"Lawrence, did you forget that you promised to come home early tonight? I understand that you may have a fear of getting married, but the invitations have already been sent out nationwide, and this wedding has attracted attention across the country. If you don't want me, I will become a laughingstock, and everyone will look down on me. I... know you can't be intimate with me, and I hate myself for being a virgin. Why do you reject me? Even if you go to Winnie after we get married, I can tolerate it. This is my love for you. Lawrence, you said you would protect me and give me the best. Can you please fulfill that?"
"Stop talking." Lawrence's body froze as he looked at himself, entangled with Winnie in an intense conflict. Guilt filled his eyes. The woman was crying, saying she had been waiting for him, while he had just spent the night before the wedding with his ex-wife. With a lump in his throat, Lawrence closed his eyes and said, "Wait for me, I'll be home immediately to try on the wedding suit."
"Okay, I'll wait for you, my husband," Darcy called out.
Winnie leaned casually against the door frame, her expression devoid of any charm. When the man turned around, he suddenly noticed her, and a dense gloom swept across his eyes, as though a phone call had stirred up and subdued countless emotions.
Lawrence knew he was a scoundrel. With an icy and penetrating gaze, he retrieved a credit card and approached Winnie, extending it to her. With a low and indifferent voice, he said, "Don't talk about what happened tonight. Winnie, we're both adults so let's treat tonight as something stolen. I'm sorry but please understand that I didn't sleep with you for nothing. By the way, the card has no spending limit. Take it."
Winnie gazed at him, a cold arc forming on her lips. Her heart was being pricked repeatedly, causing her temples to throb painfully. A chill rose from the soles of her feet. She also saw a hint of resentment and disappointment in his eyes, as well as a deep sense of sorrow. Winnie wasn't happy about him getting married. She almost softened when he had comforted her that moment as his words echoed in her mind, "I actually don't want to get married. Do you believe me?"
She fell for his trick, the jerk. His slight tenderness in bed was just to soothe her into sleeping with him. Afterwards, he turned his attention to Darcy with deep affection.
Winnie took the card, coldly smiling as she looked at it, then fiercely smacked it onto his hands. "I'm sleeping with you as charity. You're welcome. After all, after you're married, you can only watch Darcy."
The card fluttered a few times before falling from the man's grasp. Lawrence faced her anger and ridicule without expression. He moved his mouth but couldn't find the words. His cold and heavy gaze simply watched her push the door open and leave.
Before Winnie left, she unwillingly glanced at the drawer under the desk and remembered all the pain she went through was all for nothing. She almost wanted to go back out of hatred.
Gritting her teeth, with the man's gaze on her back, she could only coldly grab her file bag and leave.
Alan picked her up from Island Electronics and as he drove away, his gaze was fixed on her. "You really mixed that document in, didn't you?"
Winnie stayed silent for a few seconds and glanced at him. "Could it be fake?"
Alan couldn't believe it. He took the file bag she threw and sighed. "The heart of a wicked woman indeed. If it were me, I might back down and couldn't bear to let Lawrence go to jail."
Winnie lowered her gaze, not knowing which word of his to focus on, but in any case, she didn't respond. Finally, she sneered, saying, "You, who took away 4 trillion from him, have the nerve to call yourself kind?"
"I may not be kind, but Mars is owned by the Rodriguez family of Trento City, not someone like me who operates at my level of kindness. Just wait, tomorrow Lawrence will surely be ruined."
After a moment of silence, Winnie coldly mocked, "None of my business."
The next day, the grand wedding took place at the Lymington Seven-Star Hotel.
Winnie woke up, put on an exquisite and aloof makeup, and contacted Olivia. "Olivia, how are your preparations going?"
But Olivia's tone completely changed. "Winnie, I'm afraid I can't accompany you to the wedding today. Mia and I were discovered by Sam! He brought people to my neighborhood and searched for us."
"What?" Winnie's face also changed slightly as she thought and then remembered. "Sam, Jeremy's older brother, Mia's biological father?"
"Yes." Olivia let out a bitter laugh.
"How did he find out about you and your daughter?"
