Chapter 379

She clenched her fists beneath her sleeve, and with a cold smile, she raised her head. "If I hadn't made the pills special, how could they have eluded your scrutiny and Darcy's monitoring of Madam Rodriguez? Back then, she was living at your house and was treated like a queen. You drove me out, and she could clearly monitor Madam Rodriguez's condition every day. But for me, I could only beg Taylor, asking her to believe in me and secretly change Madam Rodriguez's food, because I didn't know what Darcy might give her.

"The pills had to be extra careful to bypass the family doctor's inspection. So, the ingredients in the pills were very special, with both a toxin-toxin effect on Madam Rodriguez and a superficially more lethal effect. Only when Madam Rodriguez's surface functions deteriorated in the family doctor's examinations would certain people feel at ease, without raising any suspicion. It was a risky move... but in reality, three years later, her internal organ functions have recovered. It's just that the family doctor couldn't detect it."

If this was true, then she had indeed gone through great lengths, even suffering greatly, for her plan. Regardless of the truth or falsehood behind her words, it was undeniable that his mother waking up from coma was indeed related to those two medications.

Lawrence's deep and complex gaze flickered with a tinge of darkness as he softly said, "Thank you for my mother's awakening."

Winnie keenly sensed that there was more being implied in his words.

Winnie eagerly approached the operating room door and explained to Lawrence, "Lawrence, now that you know about these things, the first priority is for you to allow me to assess your mother's condition. I have developed a new medicine for her, and I should be the person most capable of understanding and curing her illness. I am skilled in medicine, having encountered various illnesses abroad. Please trust me. Madam Rodriguez just vomited blood, and we know nothing about her condition. I need to go and check on her quickly."

Winnie thought she couldn't delay the treatment for the elderly woman who had just woken up. She needed to save a life.

However, Lawrence shook his head calmly with narrowed eyes. "Mother is undergoing a comprehensive physical examination inside. The hospital is authoritative, and the experts are thorough."

"But they don't understand your mother's condition, and understanding will take time!"

"Why do you want to treat her?" Lawrence asked with a faint gaze.

Winnie felt a pang in her heart from his dismissive tone. He didn't trust her, even after knowing that she had painstakingly taken care of his mother for three years, going as far as developing new medicines for her and administering those medications.

It seemed that the shadow of her and her uncle's past kidnapping of Madam Rodriguez had influenced his judgment greatly. She clenched her fists tightly and replied, "I am grateful to your mother. I just want her to recover quickly. Is that okay?"

"Taylor, do you still have the medicine Winnie gave you?" Lawrence turned his head and asked.

Winnie closed her eyes.

Taylor nodded dazedly, realizing what Lawrence meant. She reached into her bag and defended Winnie, "Mr. Rodriguez, Winnie's medicine is definitely effective. You should know that from the moment Madam Rodriguez woke up..."

"What about the pill you took three years ago?" Lawrence asked again.

Winnie responded directly, "Taylor doesn't have it anymore, but I had it prepared at a medical hall. They should have the prescription for the medicine. If you're not confident, you can carefully examine both medicines."

Lawrence's gaze deepened, determined to conduct a thorough analysis. His mother's life couldn't tolerate any mistakes.

Winnie presented a condition, "Both medicines consist of around 300 ingredients, and the analysis will take a few days. Before that, I hope I can examine your mother."

Lawrence pressed his lips together and said, "Let's wait for the results of my mother's physical examination."

Winnie understood the answer. He wanted to examine Madam Rodriguez's organs to check for any issues, indirectly probing whether there was a problem with her medicine. She nodded and responded, "Okay, I will wait. Some of the results should be available this afternoon."

Winnie stayed put and waited. At 2 in the afternoon, Madam Rodriguez was wheeled out, looking very weak. Winnie didn't even get a clear look at her before the bodyguards and medical staff escorted her away.

Her tests showed several items: abdominal organs, brain, limbs, all of which were not fatal.

Winnie took two steps back, her expression blank, as she observed the man's cold-heartedness. She clenched her teeth in disappointment and walked away.

Jeremy leaned in, watching Winnie's retreating figure and sighed heavily. "Mr. Rodriguez, I believe Winnie has put in a lot of effort. What will you do when Winnie's medical test comes back with no issues? And, I told you three years ago that the surveillance at the countryside clinic caught her buying emergency medicine for Madam Rodriguez. Did you forget about that, along with Darcy showing you the edited video of Madam Rodriguez coughing up blood?"

Lawrence froze suddenly, his gaze falling on the fragile figure of the woman. He clenched his fist tightly. "Jeremy, I cannot risk my mother's life."

Jeremy naturally understood. He was also in agony. Taking another step forward in trusting Winnie after the incident with Madam Rodriguez was too difficult. "Now, we just have to wait for Madam Rodriguez to speak up. The truth is all in her mouth."

"Mhmm," Lawrence closed his eyes.
