Chapter 365
However, as soon as he got into the car, Lawrence regained his composure. His cold, star-studded eyes lifted, and he said coldly, "Let the news of my release be delayed for a few more hours."
Bryan glanced at the rearview mirror and suddenly understood.
Lawrence smirked, "Did Mars take the bait with the chip?"
The high-ranking executive sitting in the passenger seat made a confirmation call and turned back with a sly smile. "Lawrence, the CEOs of Magic Aviation Company and Splendid Energy just secretly replied to us. Mars had signed a contract with them, using a technology company claiming to have the latest Power Saving chip."
Lawrence was aware that the Power saving chip had been stolen from his laboratory. However, he hadn't yet figured out how they managed to do it, but it didn't matter. He had been setting up a big game from the very beginning.
During the afternoon press conference, the executives from Magic Aviation Company and Splendid Energy had been collaborating with him in a staged performance. Now that the contract was signed, things became easier. Mars wanted to harm his company with the chip's malfunction so that it couldn't be launched. But now, Mars would face consequences for underestimating Lawrence.
"The incident generated numerous negative effects, leading to bankruptcy due to breach of compensation. Bryan, take action and expose Mars's piracy by using our real Power Saving chip in the laboratory. Sue them until their company goes bankrupt," Lawrence said slowly, leaning against the seat with his legs folded.
Bryan accelerated, and the car returned to Island Electronics, racing through the streets with determination. Lawrence headed straight to the laboratory. The real Power Saving chip had finally been modified, enhancing the data rather than damaging it. The claim that it couldn't be released was a falsehood; in reality, its release had been delayed.
He had already noticed that Mars was secretly following him on a business trip, approaching the CEOs of Magic Aviation Company and Splendid Energy. Lawrence was well aware about Mars's plan.
Island Electronics buzzed with activity, with all the experimental personnel fully occupied. Meanwhile, the senior executives sat at the table, while Lawrence stood in front of his office, observing the bustling scene below with a glint in his eyes. He then declared, "We must catch the mole who stole the chip and destroyed the data for Mars." Bryan nodded fiercely in agreement.
Around 4 am, Mars was suddenly awakened by his subordinate. "Mars, something bad happened! After signing the contract with Magic Aviation Company and Splendid Energy, our bosses quickly turned against us. They called the police overnight, claiming that our chip is a pirated version and that we are unlawfully infringing on Island Electronics' legitimate chip rights. They want to cancel the contract and demand a high compensation."
"How is that possible?" Mars didn't believe it as he lazily lit a cigarette. "As we all know, Island Electronics' chip cannot be released, so there is no infringement. The Power Saving chip we stole happens to fill the gap that Magic Aviation Company and Splendid Energy urgently need. And, Lawrence is now locked up."
"The problem lies here." The subordinate frowned and added, "One hour ago, Island Electronics' Power Saving chip was re-released! They held a launch event overnight, testing it on-site, and there were no issues. The whole city's media rushed over. And... and..." The subordinate was stuttering, overwhelmed with anxiety.
"Speak!" Mars demanded, seeing him hesitate.
The subordinate's face turned pale and continued, "And Lawrence was there at the launch event. In other words, he wasn't in the police station for trial. There is only one possibility, Mars. He was released without charge."
"Impossible!" Mars shouted, throwing away his cigarette and his face contorted in disbelief. He quickly made a call to the Lymington Judicial Committee to get some information. Surprisingly, the bribery file against Lawrence lacked evidence, so he could not be arrested.
Mars hung up the phone, his evil face turning sinister. He pondered over it and only thought of Winnie. That bastard. The files he gave her were supposed to be enough to put Lawrence in jail for several years.
Mars sighed and concluded that Winnie's heart had likely softened because old feelings die hard. She temporarily betrayed Lawrence and now she has turned the tables on him.
Mars sat in his chair and, within minutes, was bombarded with phone calls from the CEOs of Magic Aviation Company and Splendid Energy.
Island Electronics' genuine chips were back on the market, and nobody dared to buy the pirated ones he had. The media started to stir. Even the Commercial Crime Investigation Department received a report from Island Electronics and was rushing to his company to gather information.
"Mars, fortunately, you signed contracts with Magic Aviation Company and Splendid Energy using a shell company. They can't trace it back to West Iron Group. You better leave now, go back to Trento City and hide for a while! Lawrence has set a trap for you. Once the Commercial Crime Investigation Department gets involved, you won't be able to escape," his subordinate suggested.
"Damn it." Mars cursed. He had been waiting for the stock market to open the next day, bankrupting Island Electronics directly, and putting Lawrence in prison. The situation had now turned around, and it was moving too quickly for him to handle. He helplessly said, "Even if it's a shell company, Magic Aviation Company and Splendid Energy's breach of contract will still cost West Iron Group a fortune."
In the office of Island Electronics, Lawrence, who found out Mars had rushed back to Trento City overnight, smirked.
Mars was Bob's adopted son, and he held a significant position in the Rodriguez family. It wouldn't be easy to take him down. Mars could clean up his mess, but he had to make him bleed.
"Mr. Rodriguez, the front desk just received a package." Bryan rushed into the CEO's office, holding a small package.
Lawrence furrowed his brows and looked over. "Who sent it?"
"Winnie..."
Lawrence's body stiffened for a moment. "Open it. Wait, you know what, I'll open it myself." His tone became low, his gaze deep. He personally opened the package.
Inside was a dossier on Mr. Stewart, a recording, and a surveillance footage of Winnie entering and leaving the Power Saving chip laboratory.
Lawrence was filled with questions as he opened the recordings. He listened to the conversation between Darcy and Mr. Stewart, while also investigating the recent frequent contact between Darcy and Mr. Stewart. His expression suddenly turned dark. There was no doubt that Winnie was telling him that there was more than just her involved in tampering with the chips at Island Electronics; Mars was also involved.
Darcy and Mr. Stewart, both of them were the insiders he was looking for.
The package sent by the woman seemed ordinary, but it seemed to contain a mocking message for him. Lawrence stared at the package for a long time, then suddenly turned his head and asked, "How is Darcy's investigation at the police station going?"
Bryan paused for a moment, shaking his head. "I'm not sure. But Mr. Ray had sent many lawyers there for her last night."
Lawrence pursed his lips, a sharp coldness at the corner of his mouth, disappointment evident in his eyes. For a few moments, his gaze sank before instructing, "Send this recording to the police station."
"Mr. Rodriguez, are you sure?" Bryan was slightly surprised that Mr. Rodriguez was doing this to Darcy. It was literally like sending evidence over.
Just then, Lawrence's phone suddenly rang. He glanced at it and frowned as he answered, "Mr. Ordelia, what's up?"
"Lawrence, Darcy collapsed and spat up blood at the police station! Please, get her out of there. She only has one kidney and the overnight trial is too much for her to bear. She's been under immense stress and her body can't handle it. No matter what she's done wrong, she had donated a kidney to your mother; that's half a life!"
"She collapsed and spat up blood?" Lawrence's brow furrowed deeply. After a moment, he stood up with furrowed brows, slowly picked up his suit jacket, and said to Bryan, "I'm going out."
"Mr. Rodriguez, then should I still send this recording data to the police station?" Bryan hesitated, pointing at the recording.
Lawrence furrowed his brows and looked over.
