Chapter 592
In anger, Sidney exclaimed, "This is Winnie's suitor, named Rock, also a member of the upper class in Lymington.
"Can you stop coming to my house every day! I've said it before, I don't welcome you!" Sidney noticed that Rock was increasingly treating this place as his own home.
The audacity of this man, persistently invading his space, ignited Sidney's ire even more. It felt like he was engaging in a covert competition with himself, a big man driven by such a vindictive spirit, which only served to fuel Sidney's anger further!
Before Winnie could speak, she frowned silently.
Melissa took a deep breath and walked over, patting her grandson's head affectionately. "Sidney, I said to treat guests with courtesy, especially your mommy's guests."
Rock looked at Melissa, a flurry of thoughts crossing his mind.
Of course, he knew who the middle-aged woman in front of him was. What surprised him was Melissa's gentle and generous attitude. To some extent, Melissa embodied Lawrence. She was kind to Winnie, which was a plus in Winnie's eyes.
Rock smiled with narrowed eyes and said, "Ms. Clark, I am Winnie's boyfriend, soon-to-be husband."
"It's not confirmed yet!" Sidney spoke up. He knew the media had released news of his mother and Rock getting married, and although he didn't show it on the surface, he simply couldn't believe it.
As long as his mother didn't say it herself, he felt it was all fake!
"Winnie," feeling anxious, comforted her son, "Go play by yourself for a while," she said to Sidney.
Olivia immediately came over and led Sidney away.
Melissa's expression changed upon hearing Rock's words.
Winnie couldn't help but notice the hint of surprise beneath Melissa's sorrowful gaze. She frowned slightly, pretending not to see Melissa's sadness.
"Hello," Melissa squeezed her fingertips, reluctantly greeting Rock, then turned to Winnie. "Winnie, I came today to apologize to you. Did I disturb you again?"
"No, Auntie. I don't know what you need to apologize for. Please go ahead," Winnie said, taking off her coat and leading Melissa to the side. Throughout, she maintained a gentle and respectful attitude.
Melissa's eyes reddened, unable to help but hold Winnie's hand, patting it with a heavy heart. "Are you engaged to this young man? I didn't expect this, Winnie. I understand your intentions. The other day when I returned from here, I told Lawrence that I didn't want to buy a house here. But I don't know why he was so stubborn and insisted that Bryan buy the two buildings nearby.
"When I heard the news from the hospital, I rushed over to stop it, but Bryan had already made the payment. I wanted to tell you not to worry and not to dislike me. I won't live here. I know you're upset. I wanted to treat you like a daughter, emotionally rely on you, and feel that this way, I can be closer to Sidney and also make Lawrence..."
Melissa didn't finish her sentence. But her true thoughts and selfishness were expressed through her eyes.
Winnie sighed in her heart, recognizing Melissa's gentle nature, unwilling to hurt anyone. If she disagreed, Melissa really wouldn't live here.
She remembered how Lawrence had saved her life last night, unable to bear the thought of coldly driving Melissa away. Considering it as repaying Lawrence a favor, she hesitated.
Winnie couldn't bear to see Melissa look sad again and changed her mind. "Auntie, since the house has been bought, if you want to live here, choose one to reside in. If you need help with Dry Needling or to see a doctor, you can ask. But our relationship can only be like this."
Melissa listened with a heavy heart, but her eyes still brightened. She trembled slightly, wanting to say thank you, and Rock approached at the right moment, holding Winnie's arm and smiling kindly. "Yes! Auntie, you bought the house, so you can live here. Winnie and Lawrence are no longer related. She has let go, and you don't have to worry. Besides, we will be getting married early next month, and Winnie will move into the bridal house I've prepared. She won't stay in this Dazzling Estate villa for long!"
Melissa's steps faltered as the realization struck her heart. Winnie was getting married early next month! So soon!
And Winnie looked at Rock in surprise. They hadn't discussed the matter of the bridal house yet, how could he...
Rock lowered his head and said, "Sorry, I said it prematurely. But Auntie will know sooner or later. She is kind-hearted, and we shouldn't deceive her."
Winnie didn't hide her thoughts of getting married from Melissa.
She nodded, and at that moment, a loud noise came from the sofa!
Winnie looked up and saw Sidney throwing a spoon to the ground.
He quickly ran over, probably very angry, and kicked Rock's leg. "My mommy didn't really say she wants to marry you! Who let you prepare the bridal house? We won't move in; we won't leave here! Mommy, say something, you won't marry him."
Sidney was anxious. He knew his dad was very bad, and everything was irreparable. But if his mother really married Rock, he and Oscar would become burdens.
The two kids didn't know where to go; Sidney hadn't figured it out yet. He could accept his mother starting a new life, but he couldn't accept her marrying Rock!
"Mommy, don't marry him, okay?" Sidney looked up, angrily tugging at Winnie's sleeve.
Winnie noticed the redness in her child's eyes. Sidney's dislike for Rock was evident, and she understood he needed time to accept him. With a gentle squeeze of his hand, she half-closed her eyes, dispelling his illusions.
"Mommy has already decided, Sidney," she said firmly. "I accepted Rock's proposal today. You may not agree, but Mommy hopes you will respect my decision."
Sidney froze, disappointment pulling his hand away, tears streaming down his face as he stubbornly looked at Winnie. He pursed his lips, said nothing, and ran away without a word.
In that moment, he missed Oscar immensely! He knew he had no right to interfere with his mother's remarriage! His heart, like his father's, shattered.
"Sidney!" Melissa hurriedly chased after her grandson.
"Sidney!" Olivia also ran over, looking surprised at the unpleasant scene at the living room door.
She had heard the entire conversation and now looked at Rock with a deep gaze, feeling that Rock was deliberately mentioning marriage in front of Melissa.
Melissa's eyes were also red. The news of Winnie accepting Rock's proposal was a blow to them.
"You guys talk slowly. I'll go comfort Sidney and send Melissa away," Olivia said to Winnie.
Winnie's eyes were tense and complex. She resisted the urge to follow her son, saying, "Olivia, please persuade Sidney for me. He will respect me."
"Of course! Sidney was raised by Lawrence. Even if the father is bad, the son doesn't mind. He needs time," Olivia said with a sigh and walked onto the lawn.
Rock poured a glass of water for Winnie, then gently guided her to sit on the sofa, his expression innocent. "Did I do something wrong? Maybe I should have kept our wedding a secret until everything was ready, and then told Sidney. I just wanted to help you, to make Lawrence's mother give up."
Winnie met Rock's gaze with her clear eyes, not dwelling on whether his early announcement was intended to convey the success of his proposal to Lawrence through Melissa.
