Chapter 71

Melissa was at home and smiled when she saw the baby bag, "Winnie, you actually bought baby clothes?"

"No, Mom, these are baby clothes sent by Miss Ordelia."

Melissa's actions paused as she looked at the clothes, her smile fading a bit, "Oh, and how did Darcy end up sending you clothes?"

"Perhaps it was out of politeness," Winnie replied, feeling a bit tired and went to the kitchen to get some warm water to drink.

When she came out, Melissa, Taylor, and Grace were nowhere to be found. She went to look for them and found her mother-in-law next to the garbage bin in the backyard.

She had actually thrown all the clothes Darcy sent into the garbage.

Winnie was surprised and approached her, "Mom, why did you throw away the new clothes?"

The sudden sound seemed to startle Melissa, and she quickly turned around to see Winnie. The tightness on her face loosened up a bit, but she still seemed nervous.

She quickly smiled and explained to Winnie, "I thought the fabric of these clothes... is not suitable for newborns. Perhaps Darcy doesn't understand. Winnie, I have already bought lots of clothes for the baby, we don't lack clothes. Come and see with me."

Winnie felt that her explanation was a bit mixed up and observed the look in Melissa's eyes, sensing some hidden meaning.

She followed Melissa upstairs and soon Melissa went to get an injection.

Winnie still found it strange. Why did Melissa throw away the clothes sent by Darcy? Did she dislike Darcy?

Winnie walked back, alongside the trash bin, Taylor intervened, saying, "Mrs. Rodriguez, Ms. Clark instructed that you shouldn't pick up this dress."

"I didn't pick it up. I just thought Mom was a bit confused today," Winnie responded.

"Ms. Clark had amnesia before. Sometimes she gets emotionally disturbed by forgotten memories, and her behavior becomes unusual. Can't you see that Ms. Clark is actually happy now because of her forgetfulness? In her mind..."

Taylor didn't dare delve into Melissa's illness.

Winnie had also noticed since their recent interaction that Melissa was overly lively, like a child, as if she had no worries.

Was it unexpected that she had forgotten before?

So, did she throw away Darcy's clothes because she didn't like her in the past but forgot about it?

Or was there something else going on? Did she think the clothes were harmful to the baby?

Winnie felt that there was an issue here, and it heightened her subtle suspicion towards Darcy.

In the evening, Taylor brought all the baby clothes to Winnie's bedroom. Melissa wanted Winnie to pick some.

At this moment, Lawrence entered; he had just finished work.

With his big hands unbuttoning his elegant shirt, he paused and saw, under a soft light, a woman's face that shone like jade as she selected infant clothes-how peculiar.

A strange sensation arose in Lawrence's heart, somewhat warm. They truly seemed like a couple.

Lawrence's hardened heart inexplicably relaxed a bit, and he coughed lightly.

Winnie turned around and collided with his deep and playful gaze, feeling embarrassed and tossing the baby clothes aside.

"What's wrong? As a mother, should you be shy? Sooner or later, you'll have to choose," Lawrence said as he walked over, his long legs striding confidently.

He lightly raised an eyebrow and picked up a small piece of clothing, examining it.

With his broad palm, the small garment appeared even smaller in his hand, creating a noticeable contrast.

Winnie stood there absentmindedly, imagining a child being born and resembling a little kitten in his large palm.

This tall and formidable man truly exuded the air of a father.

"It's quite cute," Lawrence remarked, glancing at the clothes. "Will the child be as tiny as a bean when they're born?"

"Why would they look like a bean? Were you a bean when you were born?" Winnie responded speechlessly.

She had read some baby books too.

"That depends on you. Eat more," he furrowed his brow as he scrutinized her figure.

"My figure is great. Don't look down on me," Winnie retorted.

Lawrence swept his gaze across her body and grinned wickedly. "I'm not currently concerned about the child's food."

Suddenly realizing his implication, Winnie blushed and quickly covered her chest with her coat.

Lawrence shifted his gaze to her face, though she couldn't match his own looks, he arrogantly declared, "You can look forward to our child's appearance."

Thinking Lawrence was complimenting her, Winnie triumphantly huffed, "Of course. When it comes to our child's looks, it's all up to me. Just look at yourself."

Lawrence remained silent.

"What about me?" he dangerously approached, his silver lips curling.

With distinct features and unparalleled handsomeness, Lawrence couldn't help but sneer. "You can't even be considered ordinary, let alone passing down scars to our child, right?"

Was he trying to infuriate her?

Lawrence smiled ambiguously as he pinched her chin and said meaningfully, "Once our child is born, let's see how shocked you'll be. If he takes after me, you have no idea how handsome he'll be. I'm afraid women will love him to death on this earth."

Winnie was shocked by his self-confidence!

Rolling her eyes, she smiled and said, "Alright, I understand, Mr. Rodriguez, you deserve me."

Lawrence chuckled with amusement, his face darkened as he forcefully gripped her face, his breath close to hers.

"Woman, do you even know who you married? I dare you to say such words even if I give you ten times the courage."

Winnie had never seen such an arrogant man.

She furrowed her brows and analyzed, "You may be wealthy, but it's unlikely that you are wealthier than my past self, right?"

A burst of air escaped Lawrence's chest.

Winnie earnestly continued, "I've seen half of your face too. Compared to the scarred millionaires in Lymington, you might be someone from out of town."

Lawrence lowered his head and kissed her relentless and self-assured lips.

With a smirk, he said, "You're quite daring, Mrs. Rodriguez! Your mouth is so sharp, it seems perfect for kissing."

"Um, no you said we would be equal and respect each other." Winnie struggled in his broad embrace.

Lawrence, displeased, exhaled heavily as he released her, with a touch of regret and resentment in his voice.

"We've just started dating and already you won't let me kiss you anymore. It feels like we're taking steps backward."

Resting his forehead against hers, his straight nose added to his charismatic appearance. Winnie had lied; even with the scar, he was still handsome as hell.

Her cheeks flushed, she grabbed his shirt and tried to steady herself, reasoning, "It's precisely because we're dating that we should take things step by step. If Mr. Rodriguez wants to kiss in the future, I have to be willing."

"How do I make you willing? Strip naked?"

Annoyed, Winnie punched him lightly, tickling him.

Lawrence's narrow eyes became deeper, a hint of wickedness flashing as he held her hand and brought it to his chest. "If you unbutton and feel my muscles, you'll want me to kiss you."

"Stop teasing!" Winnie's angry face blushed, and she pushed him away slightly. The small clothes on the bed were now in disarray because of their antics~

Embarrassed, she reached to tidy them up, her mind calming down from the ambiguous thoughts. She remembered something important that she needed to discuss with him-
