Chapter 107
When Isabella and Michael got back to the villa, they found Kenna sitting on the couch with a cane, looking pretty down.
On the other side of the couch were Scarlett and Lyanna.
Right in the middle of everyone was Isabella's white suitcase, wide open with a bag of white powder inside.
Isabella and Michael shared a quick look, their faces calm but their eyes full of mischief.
Scarlett, feeling all high and mighty, didn't catch their little exchange.
"Isabella, how could you do this? Don't you know the Williams Family hates drugs?" Scarlett scolded, arms crossed.
Isabella looked at Scarlett, puzzled. "Ms. Ramirez, I don't get what you're saying. Are you accusing me of being involved with drugs?"
Before Scarlett could answer, Lyanna pointed at the suitcase and snapped, "The evidence is right there! Are you still going to deny it? Isn't this your suitcase? The drugs were found in your suitcase. What do you have to say for yourself?"
Isabella frowned. She thought Lyanna was reasonable yesterday, but now it seemed like she was just pretending.
"Just because it's in my suitcase doesn't mean it's mine! Prove it!" Isabella sat down on the couch, crossed her arms, and stared calmly at Scarlett and Lyanna.
Michael chuckled, sat next to Isabella, and put his arm around her shoulders.
Scarlett's fists clenched at the sight of them being so close, and she thought, 'Just wait, Isabella, I'll make you pay for this!'
Scarlett pointed at the suitcase. "We don't need proof! Everyone knows Williams hates drugs more than anything! And you, some stranger, are most likely involved! Come clean - are you using or dealing? If you confess, maybe Kenna'll give you a second chance."
Kenna looked at Isabella and Michael, but their faces stayed calm.
"I thought you were a nice girl yesterday, but now it turns out you're mixed up in drugs! Michael, would you want anything to do with a drug user?" Lyanna asked Michael.
Michael shook his head seriously. "I wouldn't want a woman who uses or deals drugs-that would ruin my life."
Before Scarlett and Lyanna could celebrate, Michael continued, "But something's off. I've been with Isabella these past few days. The suitcase is from Avalonia, and I was with her when she packed. I didn't see her put any drugs in it. And even if she did, how could it be found so easily? Something's fishy about this!"
Michael finished, looking at Kenna.
Kenna's brow furrowed slightly; logically, if someone were using drugs, they would hide it discreetly.
Isabella nodded and looked at Kenna with a hint of distress. "Father, if this powder is really drugs, then I must have been framed! I have an alibi-Michael has been with me the whole time."
Kenna nodded and turned to the maid. "Tell us how you found this powder."
The maid, who had discovered the drugs, nodded and explained how she had accidentally knocked over the suitcase while cleaning the room.
Lyanna got all fired up. She stood up, pointing at Isabella, and said, "Did you hear that, Isabella? The maid has been with Kenna for over ten years. She would never betray him! Do you think she would frame you?"
Isabella's face clouded over. Lyanna reminded her of her mother, Mia-a woman who always seemed intent on pushing her to her limits.
But Scarlett didn't look as triumphant as Lyanna; she seemed puzzled.
'I hid that bag of drugs so well yesterday. There's no way it could have been found so easily! Something's off,' Scarlett thought, frowning deeply, unable to figure it out.
Michael looked at Kenna. "Dad, I also believe the maid wouldn't frame Isabella."
Kenna looked at Michael in surprise. Wasn't he always on Isabella's side? By saying this, he was going against her, implying that Isabella was indeed involved in drugs.
Scarlett's initial confusion vanished with Michael's reaction. She thought Michael was finally starting to doubt Isabella.
But before she could smile, Michael suddenly held Isabella's hand and said, "I believe Isabella has nothing to do with drugs! Since it's not the maid framing her, and no one else has touched the suitcase, it's very likely the drugs were already in the suitcase when we bought it!"
Isabella nodded earnestly. "Yeah, that could be it. The guy who sold me the suitcase looks shady."
Scarlett was taken aback by his words. She never expected him to shift the blame to the person who sold the suitcase.
"No way! Airport security is super tight! You couldn't even sneak drugs in your rectum, let alone your suitcase! So the guy who sold the suitcase couldn't have planted those drugs," Scarlett said confidently.
Lyanna nodded in agreement. If they could prove Isabella was guilty of drug possession and trafficking, Kenna would never agree to her marriage with Michael. That would give Scarlett a chance.
Isabella and Michael exchanged a glance, both smiling.
Michael stroked his chin and said, "I also believe our security wouldn't miss such an obvious way of hiding drugs. So, maybe that white powder isn't drugs at all-that's why it got past security."
"Not drugs? How could that be? It must be!" Scarlett blurted out, realizing everyone was staring at her.
Embarrassed, Scarlett quickly added, "I mean, if it's flour or starch, why would it be in such a simple, ugly package? Only drugs would have such careless packaging, right? Of course, that's just my guess."
