Chapter 219
John drove to the hospital and asked about Odette's room.
When he walked in, he saw her lying there, looking like she was asleep.
Frowning, he went over to her. He wasn't in the mood to wait for her to wake up on her own.
"Odette! Wake up, I need to talk to you." He shook her shoulder, but she didn't move.
Getting frustrated, he slapped her face, but still nothing.
That's when it hit him that something was really wrong. He checked her neck for a pulse, but her skin was cold, and he couldn't find one.
John quickly pulled his hand back. Was she dead?
Just then, he heard a bunch of footsteps coming down the hall. Security guards, doctors, and nurses burst into the room.
They saw Odette on the bed and John standing there, and their looks practically screamed "murderer."
"Damn it! I've been set up," John muttered, his face darkening.
That afternoon, while Isabella's news was still trending, the story of John being a murder suspect blew up.
When Isabella saw the news, she spat out her coffee.
"What did you say? John committed murder?" Isabella looked at Juliet, shocked.
Juliet nodded and handed her tablet to Isabella. "It's true, Ms. Taylor. See for yourself."
Isabella started reading the news.
According to the report, a nurse was found knocked out in the hospital's storage room, her uniform stolen. The person who found her called the police and alerted hospital security. After checking the surveillance footage, security saw the suspect, dressed as a nurse, going into Odette's room.
When security and medical staff got there, Odette was already dead, and John was the only one there.
Later, the police found toxic stuff in Odette's IV, making John the main suspect.
Isabella's mouth twitched. She had just contacted a lawyer to reduce Odette's sentence, and now Odette was dead?
"I knew the wicked would get what they deserve. Madeline went crazy, and now Odette is dead. Ms. Taylor, do you think this is karma?" Juliet asked.
Isabella rubbed her forehead and sighed, "I don't know about that, but I know I'm probably in trouble."
"Why do you say that? You didn't kill anyone," Juliet said, wide-eyed and confused.
Isabella gave a bitter smile and pointed to the picture of John being taken away by the police in the news.
"Do you think John killed Odette?" Isabella asked Juliet.
Juliet nodded, then shook her head. "At first, I thought he did. His thing with Bianca isn't a secret. Maybe he did it to protect her. But then I remembered he's the heir to the Williams Family. He wouldn't need to get his hands dirty; he could just pay someone to do it."
Isabella nodded. "You're right. John wouldn't take such a risk. He probably went to the hospital to ask Odette about her dealings with Bianca. But now that Odette is dead, who do you think they'll pin it on?"
Juliet tilted her head, thinking for a moment. "Aside from the mad Madeline and the dead Odette, that leaves Bianca and you."
Juliet's eyes widened with dawning realization. "There are two prime suspects: Bianca and you!"
Isabella nodded, accepting the grim reality. "If the police can't uncover the truth, suspicion will fall on me. Most people will assume it was me. John isn't a murderous lunatic. Bianca's already got a bad reputation; another accusation wouldn't hurt her-she didn't have a reason to kill. But I'm different. Do you remember Pearl?"
Juliet nodded. Pearl's case had caused a huge stir in the city. The gruesomeness of her fate, even with the images censored, was terrifying.
Isabella narrowed her eyes and said seriously, "The ruthlessness of this killer reminds me of what happened to Pearl. If I'm right, it's the same person! Their goal is to frame me. They probably didn't expect John to show up, but it doesn't matter. They might be even happier because their real aim was to drag the Williams family into this mess."
Juliet listened to Isabella's analysis, feeling dizzy. This was all more complicated than her most intricate designs.
"Sorry, Ms. Taylor, I don't fully understand, but I just want to know, will you be in danger?" Juliet asked worriedly.
Isabella smiled and waved her hand. "At most, it will cause some minor trouble in the media or my daily life. Odette isn't Pearl; no one will go crazy and try to kill me for her."
Though Isabella pretended not to care, she was quite nervous inside.
Meanwhile, Michael also received the news of Odette's death.
"Did you do this?" Michael asked Jerry, frowning.
Jerry immediately shook his head. "Mr. Williams, you're giving me too much credit. Without your orders, I wouldn't dare kill anyone."
Jerry observed Michael's furrowed brow, but had no doubt of his innocence. As Michael's closest confidant, he knew there was no reason for Michael to hide something like this from him.
Michael tapped his fingers on the table lightly. "Isabella might face some trouble in the next few days. But that's secondary. Keep a close eye on Bianca. Something about her doesn't feel right."
Jerry nodded, then remembered something and turned to ask, "Mr. Williams, should we send someone to Lumaria to check on Bianca's kidney transplant?"
Michael nodded. "Yes, go ahead. Get all the details."
