Chapter 91
Isabella heard Jerry's response and felt a wave of relief wash over her. She sprinted towards him.
When Jerry and his team, flashlights in hand, reached Isabella, she was on the verge of tears.
"Thank God, I'm finally out of this damn forest! I almost got trampled by wild boars," Isabella said, tears welling up.
Jerry quickly fished a tissue out of his pocket and handed it to her.
"Mrs. Williams, Mr. Williams is waiting for you. Maybe you could try to hold on a little longer?" Jerry gently suggested, hinting that she might want to save her tears for when she saw Michael.
Isabella also felt that crying in front of them would be undignified, so she held back her tears and let Jerry lead her to Michael.
Meanwhile, Michael learned through the walkie-talkie that they had found Isabella. He leaped out of his chair in excitement and dashed outside. Scarlett also heard the news of Isabella's return and felt a wave of relief that was quickly replaced by resentment.
When Michael saw Isabella surrounded by the search team, he was overwhelmed with emotion. His usual stern and aloof demeanor was gone as he rushed over and enveloped Isabella in a tight hug.
"Isabella, you have no idea how worried I was when you were missing. Thank goodness you've returned to me in one piece," Michael said, holding her so tightly as if afraid she might vanish again.
Isabella cried, "If you keep hugging me so tightly, I'm going to suffocate!"
Michael quickly loosened his grip. Isabella, gasping for breath and with tears streaming down her face, said excitedly to Michael, "I almost got trampled by wild boars. Three of them, each as big as a tank. It was terrifying! I almost thought I'd never see you again."
Michael then noticed the dirt smudges on Isabella's face, the grass clinging to her clothes, and the scratches on her arms and hands from branches.
Michael felt a pang of heartache, gently wiping the dirt off Isabella's face and removing the leaves from her hair.
"I'm so sorry for what you've been through," Michael said, his heart aching with guilt.
Isabella shook her head. "As long as you're okay, that's all that matters. I thought you were attacked by wild animals in the forest, so I wanted to bring you weapons."
Michael felt even more heartbroken and deeply touched. Isabella, who didn't have much outdoor experience, braved the forest to fetch him gear upon hearing about his injury. Her love ran deep indeed.
"I know, thank you," Michael said, gently touching Isabella's hair. Ignoring the dirt on her face, he planted a firm kiss on her cheek.
Isabella blushed, but her expression quickly changed when she saw Scarlett glaring at her not far away.
"Michael, I was tricked! Wren told me you were attacked by wild animals, so I went deep into the forest. The equipment she gave me, the satellite phone, and the hunting rifle were all broken! If the kangaroos hadn't saved me, I might have died," Isabella said angrily.
Michael's face turned cold. "I know. I've already found out that Scarlett was behind all of this. Whatever you plan to do to them, I've got your back."
Michael's relief at Isabella's safety quickly gave way to a seething anger. If Isabella wanted Scarlett to pay, he'd make sure they disappeared from the world.
Isabella bit her lip, hesitating. She remembered Kenna mentioning Scarlett's connection to their family during dinner. Plus, Scarlett and Michael had been friends since childhood, making it tough for Isabella to decide.
"Let's just call the police and let the law handle it," Isabella sighed, ultimately choosing this approach.
Michael's eyes flickered, and he eventually nodded. He knew that given Isabella's nature, she wouldn't come up with a particularly harsh punishment. Leaving it to the police was one way to handle it.
Knowing Scarlett's family's powerful connections, Michael understood that simply reporting her to the police wouldn't have much impact. Nevertheless, Michael intended to take matters into his own hands as a message to Scarlett's family, so they would know what to do.
Scarlett stood at a distance behind Michael, watching him and Isabella embrace, her fists clenched tightly. The person in Michael's arms should have been her, but she didn't dare approach now.
If Michael hadn't learned the truth from Wren and Ember, Scarlett could have disguised herself as a victim, shifted all the blame onto them, and then expressed concern for Isabella to lower her guard.
But now that Michael knew Scarlett's plan, any act she put on would just make her look like a fool.
'Damn you, Isabella, why didn't you die in the forest? If you had, Michael might have been angry with me at first, but given time, he would have returned to me! I'm the only one who should be Michael's wife!' Scarlett thought, glaring at Isabella with hatred, brewing another crazy plan in her mind.
Just then, someone came rushing over-it was Austin, the owner of the hunting grounds.
"Thank God, Isabella, you're alive! This is great, I won't have to die!" Austin was so excited he was almost in tears.
Michael gave Austin a disapproving glance. He was savoring a sweet moment with Isabella, and Austin's interruption was unwelcome.
Isabella left Michael's embrace and bowed to thank Austin.
Austin was confused by Isabella's actions, and Michael also looked puzzled.
"Ms. Taylor, why are you thanking me? I should be apologizing to you. If I had taken care of you properly, you wouldn't have been in danger," Austin said, looking remorseful.
Isabella shook her head. "Austin, I have to thank you. I encountered three wild boars in the forest. If it weren't for Optimus Prime and Megatron, I would have been trampled to death! They drove the boars away and saved me."
Michael was startled. He suddenly remembered Isabella mentioning earlier that she had encountered wild boars in the forest, but he hadn't realized that it was kangaroos that had saved her.
Austin was stunned for a moment, then exclaimed with joy, "Did my two kangaroos save you? That's amazing! I knew they were the best. Ms. Taylor, do you know where they went?"
