Chapter 332
Isabella's question left John speechless for a moment.
"Come on, speak up! My dad handed over all his embezzled funds to you, and you couldn't even bring back his body?" Isabella taunted, crossing her arms.
Carol raised an eyebrow, surprised at Isabella's boldness. She thought, 'John probably can't prove Jasper gave him the money, but Isabella's attempt to bring him down by this is pretty naive.'
John took a deep breath and said, "The gang conflict was intense. Our people got the funds' location from Jasper, but there was a huge explosion after they left. Your father's body was destroyed, so we couldn't retrieve it."
John continued to weave his story, mixing lies with the truth. He figured there was no way Isabella could actually dig into the truth of this.
A cold smile crept onto Isabella's lips as she watched John spin his tale.
Bianca suddenly felt a bit uneasy. She worried that dragging this out might lead to more complications. Worst of all, if Mason helped Isabella sort out the public funds issue now, all her preparations would be for nothing.
Bianca stood up, looking at Isabella with a serious expression. "Enough, Isabella. I know you're heartbroken over losing your father, but this meeting is about the CEO position. According to our agreement, if I secure the public funds, I get to be the chairwoman and appoint the CEO."
John chimed in, "Exactly. These three companies need the public funds to keep going. We don't have time to argue about evidence and bodies. If you want to investigate, go to Novaria yourself."
Isabella stayed silent.
The executives in the room thought Isabella had run out of tricks and started getting excited again.
"Ms. Isabella Taylor, you need to face reality. The company really needs those public funds."
"Yeah, Ms. Isabella Taylor, if you can't cough up the money, don't stand in the way of others who can. It's not a good look, and people will laugh at you."
"That's right, Ms. Isabella Taylor, just give up the CEO position. Besides, Ms. Bianca Taylor is your sister. She won't make things too hard for you. You can still be a senior executive in the company."
Isabella looked at the executives backing Bianca, a faint smile on her lips. "So you're already acknowledging her as the CEO?"
"Well, can you produce the public funds?" a senior executive sneered.
Isabella shook her head lightly. "I can't produce them now. But give me some time, and I will."
Some executives showed disdainful expressions. To them, Isabella was just stubbornly holding on, but the best way to deal with her was to completely crush her.
To these executives, Isabella was just one step away from being finished.
Isabella's eyes scanned the room, taking in the smug faces of these executives. She knew exactly what they were up to. These guys had been skimming public funds and causing chaos in the company for years.
These execs had all done some shady stuff. Isabella had already dealt with a bunch of people who wanted her gone, but there were still more lurking around.
They hadn't made a move before because they didn't want to push Mason too far. But now, with a legit reason, even Mason couldn't fault them.
Plus, with John backing Bianca, they felt pretty safe.
Bianca felt her chances of winning were getting better, especially with so many execs on her side. Even though some hadn't spoken up yet, she was confident she'd win them over eventually.
"Isabella, I think they're right. We're sisters, after all. I won't let you stay as CEO once I'm chairwoman, but I'll give you another position. How about the PR department? It suits your image since you used to design packaging. Working in PR would be a good fit for you," Bianca said with a smug smile.
Isabella snorted, "I really appreciate your generosity."
"Don't be so formal, Isabella. We're sisters. How about a supervisory role? It's not a manager position, but with your skills, you could get there in a few years." Bianca finally showed her true colors, just to get under Isabella's skin.
Isabella stared at Bianca without a word. Just then, her phone buzzed. She glanced at the message and a playful smile spread across her face.
"Alright, enough games. Let's get to the point. I seriously doubt the public funds you have are the ones my father embezzled," Isabella said, crossing her arms and giving John a cold smile.
John, looking annoyed, furrowed his brow and said, "How many times do I have to say it? Your father's body is abroad. If you're not too busy, go check it out yourself."
Isabella shook her head. "No need for that. Who told you my father is dead? He's in the hospital. He did get caught in a gang conflict a few days ago, but I had a private detective bring him back."
As soon as Isabella said that, John's face went white as a sheet, and the execs looked shocked.
A smile crept onto Carol's lips. She knew Isabella wouldn't lie about this, sealing their victory.
"Impossible! John's men confirmed your father was dead! Did you hire actors to impersonate him?" Bianca screamed, unable to believe it.
Isabella looked at John's dark expression and sneered. "The private detective told me everything. Your men got beaten by the three major families and set off a bomb in desperation, trying to take them down with them. But my father was hiding in the least affected area, so the detective managed to sneak him out while everyone was fleeing."
