Chapter 290
Isabella watched Juliet cry and couldn't help but smile.
"I'm just quitting, not dying. If someone saw you now, they'd think I had a terminal illness. Come on, wipe those tears." Isabella handed Juliet a tissue, still smiling.
Juliet dabbed at her eyes and grabbed Isabella's hand. "But I can't stand to see you go. What if the new director isn't as nice as you? You're like a sister to me."
"Honestly, I've always thought of you as my little sister." Isabella hugged Juliet warmly.
Juliet bit her lip, looking like she had made up her mind.
"Ms. Taylor, can I come with you?" Juliet asked, her eyes full of hope.
Isabella was caught off guard. Instead of saying no right away, she gave a bittersweet smile. "Juliet, do you know what you're asking? My new job might be as CEO, but those companies are almost bankrupt. If you come with me, you might make less money than you do now."
Juliet shook her head firmly, still holding Isabella's hand. "I don't care about the money. If it's less, so be it. I believe that with you in charge, those companyies will get better, and you'll bring back your family's glory. By then, I'll probably make more than I do now!"
"That sounds like an investment, but it's a pretty big one." Isabella shook her head with a wry smile. She wasn't saying no, just amazed at Juliet's bravery.
"Please, Ms. Taylor." Juliet pleaded, still holding Isabella's hand.
Isabella rubbed her forehead. She didn't really want to leave Juliet behind. But Juliet was originally sent by Dwayne to be her assistant. Taking her felt like stealing one of Dwayne's employees, which made her feel guilty.
After some internal struggle, Isabella finally gave in.
"Okay, but I need to talk to Mr. Larson first. It wouldn't be right otherwise." Isabella shrugged and headed to Dwayne's office.
Dwayne was surprised to see Isabella again. When he heard her request, he agreed without hesitation.
"It's fine, young people should make their own choices. I approve. If Juliet wants to go with you, she can. I wish you both the best." Dwayne agreed easily.
Just an assistant, it wasn't a big deal for Dwayne.
Before resigning, Isabella had made all the preparations, recruiting talented new employees and delegating her work.
Now, as soon as the new director was chosen, she could hand over her duties.
After telling her colleagues in the design department about her resignation, everyone expressed their regret and best wishes.
"Tonight, I'll treat everyone to dinner, drinks, and karaoke! Let's have a fun farewell party!" Isabella's suggestion was met with cheers, and everyone started talking about what to eat that night.
Isabella called Michael to see if he wanted to come to her farewell dinner.
"I won't get involved in your company's affairs," Michael said, politely declining Isabella's invitation with a courteous smile.
Michael had his reasons. Mason still hadn't let go of his suspicions about him. If he showed up and got photographed, Mason would find out. Then his cover would be blown.
Isabella didn't mind Michael's refusal. After chatting for a bit, just as they were about to end the call, Michael's tone changed, like he suddenly remembered something.
"Oh, by the way, have you seen the news today?" Michael asked out of the blue.
"There's a lot of news today. Which one are you talking about? Something about the four major families or our company?" Isabella asked, curious.
"It's from the national business department, about a new business law," Michael said, sounding serious.
Isabella picked up on his tone and asked anxiously, "What happened? I haven't been keeping up with the news. Just tell me straight."
"In short, this new law affects your company. Your dad broke the law, and it's serious. His shares will be frozen once the law kicks in. So even if he wants to transfer them, he can't," Michael explained.
Isabella's eyes widened in shock. "My dad's shares are frozen? How are we supposed to get them?"
Michael smiled. "There's good news and bad news. Which one do you want first?"
Rolling her eyes, Isabella snapped, "No time for games. Just spill it."
"Alright, things aren't as bad as they seem. I made a call, and they suggested a competition between you and Bianca. The task is to find the money your dad took and cover the company's losses. The good news is, you don't have to worry about your dad pulling any tricks," Michael said.
Isabella sighed deeply. "That's not exactly good news for me. I have no idea where my dad hid the money. Is the bad news that Bianca has an edge over me? If she finds the money, she'll have more shares than me."
Michael gave a wry smile and touched his nose. "Yeah, that's pretty much it."
Isabella rubbed her forehead. "At least for now, my dad's still unconscious. Once he wakes up, I can ask him where the money is. I'm sure I can get it out of him."
But before Isabella could finish, Juliet burst into the office.
"Ms. Taylor, something's wrong. There are two police officers outside looking for you," Juliet said, out of breath.
Isabella frowned. "Looking for me? Why? I've already told them everything I know. There's no point in them talking to me now."
Juliet shook her head. "No, the police said your dad escaped from the hospital. They want to know if you know where he is."
