Chapter 415

When Joe heard someone calling 'Jack' behind him, he turned around, curious to see what this pirate captain looked like.

The person calling out was a girl with an HR department name tag around her neck. She was looking at Joe with curiosity in her eyes.

Joe suddenly remembered he was supposed to be Jack now.

"Hello, ma'am. I'm Jack. What can I do for you?" Joe asked, trying to sound casual but feeling a bit nervous, just like a job seeker would.

The girl smiled and said, "I'm Sarah Moore, the assistant to the HR manager. Since you're here for an HR position, our manager, Ms. Lester, will be interviewing you. She asked me to bring you up."

"Got it, lead the way, please," Joe replied politely.

Sarah nodded and led Joe to the elevator.

In the elevator, Sarah kept sneaking glances at Joe, thinking he was quite handsome.

After a moment, Joe moved a bit closer to Sarah and asked with a smile, "Ms. Moore, any tips for the interview? It's my first one, and I'm pretty nervous."

Sarah felt a bit flustered by Joe's charm, her cheeks turning slightly pink.

Blushing, Sarah said, "The interview process is pretty straightforward. Just listen to Ms. Lester's questions and answer them. When I was interviewed, her questions were all very simple."

Joe's eyes lit up. "Thanks for the heads-up. Can you tell me what questions she asked you?"

Sarah nodded and shared the questions Carol had asked her: a brief self-introduction, career goals, and how to handle HR issues like conflicts between employees.

"So, how would you handle a situation like that?" Joe asked, looking into Sarah's eyes.

Feeling Joe's gaze, Sarah's heartbeat quickened. Nervously, she said, "From my college experience, it's best not to escalate such matters. If too many people know, it affects company harmony. I'd bring them to a room, let them discuss the incident, ask witnesses to confirm the truth, and then compile everything into a report for the higher-ups to decide."

After she finished, Sarah looked at Joe curiously. "How would you handle it?"

Joe shrugged. "Back in school, I'd just kick them both out and let them fight it out in an alley. Whoever wins is right."

Sarah blinked, looking at Joe helplessly. "That's definitely not the right approach. It's better to follow my method. After I explained my approach, Ms. Lester hired me on the spot."

Joe looked at Sarah, puzzled. "Did Ms. Lester only ask that one question? Were there any others?"

Sarah nodded. "Oh, there were definitely more. Sometimes Ms. Lester would ask things like, if a friend in the company leaked confidential info to a rival and begged you not to tell, would you choose friendship or the company's interests?"

"How did you answer that?" Joe asked, intrigued.

"Honestly, I didn't really want to answer that one, and luckily I didn't have to. Most people said they'd betray their friend for the company," Sarah said, looking a bit helpless.

"I think they made the right call. Leaking company secrets is both illegal and unethical. It's about making our friends realize their mistakes; after all, mistakes should be punished," Sarah shared her thoughts.

Joe shook his head. "Nah, I don't think everyone sees it that way."

Sarah tilted her head, confused. "Why do you think that? How do you think those people would feel?"

A mischievous grin spread across Joe's face. "If they're my friends, they should consider my interests. As my best friends, they'd be willing to make sacrifices for me. I'd be touched. I'd enthusiastically betray them and then use them to get what I need."

Sarah's eyes widened. "Are you serious?"

Joe nodded, deadpan. "Absolutely. My friends are great to me. I had a friend who got cancer, and when he heard I was buying a house, he asked which one I liked. He was ready to jump off that building because if someone dies in a building, it affects the real estate market, and prices might drop."

Sarah's mouth twitched, and she took a step back. "Your friends seem to have it rough."

Joe burst out laughing. "You didn't actually believe that, did you? Just kidding. I was nervous and wanted to lighten the mood. Hope you don't mind."

Sarah let out a sigh of relief. "You had me worried for a second. Alright, we've reached the floor. Ms. Lester's office is right ahead. Just knock and go in."

Sarah left Joe outside Carol's office, giving him an encouraging nod before she walked away.

Joe took a deep breath, straightened his tie and outfit, then knocked on the door.

"Come in," came Carol's voice from inside.

Joe turned the doorknob and walked in.

Carol was sitting behind her desk. She looked up and glanced at Joe.

'Ms. Lester is even more stunning than I expected. Let's see how I can win her over,' Joe thought, feeling confident.

"Hello, Ms. Lester, I'm Jack, here to apply for a position in the HR department," Joe said respectfully.

Carol looked him up and down, then a smile appeared on her lips. "Are you sure your name is Jack? Because I feel like you should be called Joe."

Joe was instantly stunned.
