Chapter 309

With that, Leo revved up the engine and they sped off.

"Where to next? Maybe we should head straight to the police station. They wouldn't dare follow us there," Isabella suggested, clearly pissed off.

"These guys are nuts; they don't care about their lives. The cops might not be able to protect us, and we're pretty far from the station," Leo replied, noticing a few cars tailing them.

"Shit, these guys are total maniacs," Leo muttered, gritting his teeth as he weaved through the streets. The thugs were trying to push them towards less crowded roads, making it easier to attack.

Leo had no choice. If he headed to crowded place, the heavy traffic would mean stopping and risking bombs being planted on their car.

Facing a bunch of crazies, stopping wasn't an option.

As the car started to slow down, Leo's face turned grim.

"Dammit, the car's got a problem, probably from that explosion earlier," Leo said, slapping the dashboard.

Isabella's heart was racing.

"It's okay, Ms. Taylor, I'll protect you," Leo assured her, scanning their surroundings. The dense forest might be their only shot.

Leo floored it, then parked the car in the forest. He jumped out, pulling a handgun from his waist.

"Let's go, Isabella, we need to get out of here," Leo said, leading her deeper into the woods.

Meanwhile, Michael got Leo's distress call. His eyes were bloodshot with anger.

"You idiots, didn't I tell you to protect Isabella secretly? Is this how you do it?" Michael yelled into the phone.

The subordinate replied, "Mr. Williams, we couldn't get too close or Isabella would notice us. Rush hour traffic separated us from Mrs. Williams, and by the time we got there, Leo had driven too far away."

"I don't want your excuses. Find them and take out those damn killers!" Michael shouted, then slammed his phone on the ground.

After taking a deep breath, Michael picked up the phone and made another call. "Track Leo and Isabella's location. I need to know where they are."

The subordinate quickly provided the info. Michael gathered his team and rushed to their location.

In the depths of the forest, Isabella and Leo were running like crazy. Despite the rough terrain, some of the thugs were skilled trackers, hot on their trail.

Suddenly, Leo tackled Isabella as a bullet whizzed past their heads.

Leo turned, raised his gun, and with two quick shots, two thugs fell to the ground, clutching their chests.

"Exciting, huh? Never thought I'd be back in the bodyguard game," Leo joked, grabbing Isabella's hand and pulling her along.

Isabella gritted her teeth, trying to keep up with Leo. Her high heels were slowing her down, and she wanted to stop and break them off to run faster.

Suddenly, she felt something wet on her hands. She looked down and was shocked to see them covered in blood.

"Why is there blood on my hands? I'm not hurt," Isabella said, turning to Leo.

With a pale face, Leo gave her a weak smile. "Looks like a bullet got lodged in my shoulder."

Isabella finally noticed the wound on Leo's left shoulder, blood trickling out.

"You're hurt! But not in the leg. We need to stop the bleeding," Isabella said, glancing nervously at the approaching thugs.

Leo shook his head and slumped against a tree. "It's not that simple. My leg's injured too."

He pointed to his leg, his black pants already soaked in blood.

Patting Isabella's shoulder, Leo handed her a handgun. "Don't worry about me now, just run. I can hold them off for a bit."

"Think they'll give me a chance to make a run for it?" Isabella rolled her eyes, checking the gun. It had 8 bullets left.

Facing the approaching thugs, Isabella took a deep breath, released the safety, aimed, and started shooting.

Two bullets hit a tree, but one nailed a thug right in the head.

The remaining thugs quickly took cover behind trees.

With a pale face, Leo smiled. "Didn't know you were such a good shot."

Isabella's expression was serious. "I used to play with guns at the shooting club, but this is my first time shooting at real people."

"Then think of it as a shooting club. It's not much different, just no respawns," Leo said, raising his gun and taking out two more thugs.

Clearing the gun smoke, Leo laughed. "It's been a while since I worked as a bodyguard, but I guess my shooting skills are still sharp."

Seeing more thugs charging at them, Isabella raised her hand and fired, hitting one thug in the arm.

Leo squinted and tried to shoot again, but his gun was empty.

"Damn it, are we gonna die here today?" Leo gritted his teeth, feeling a wave of despair.

Suddenly, a thug hurled a round object towards them. Leo's eyes widened, adrenaline surging through his veins. Ignoring the pain, he jumped up and shielded Isabella with his body.

It was a grenade.

The grenade exploded, sending fragments everywhere.

Leo lay motionless on top of Isabella.
