Chapter 228
Jasper and Mia were totally confused by the two drivers' conflicting stories. They had no clue who to trust.
Out of nowhere, Mia had a lightbulb moment. She grabbed Jasper's hand and said, "Babe, call John and ask him what the guy he sent looks like."
Jasper nodded and pulled out his phone.
Mike, the driver, smirked a bit.
Jasper's face dropped when he saw he had no signal.
"I can't call. No signal," he said, giving Mike a suspicious look.
Mike's face turned serious. "Damn it, it must be the car next to us! They must have a signal jammer! Mr. Taylor, Mrs. Taylor, hang on tight. I'm gonna speed up and lose these guys."
Mike slammed the gas pedal, and the car shot forward.
The car next to them sped up too, matching their pace. On the wide road, the two cars started a high-speed chase.
The people in the other car yelled at Mike, shouting to Jasper and Mia that they were the ones sent by John. But the roar of the engines and the wind drowned out their voices.
"Call Mr. Williams and ask what to do," the driver of the other car said urgently.
The guy in the passenger seat pulled out his phone, but his face fell. "Damn it! They have a signal jammer!"
"What do we do?" the driver asked, panic creeping in.
The passenger's face hardened. "Slow down and try to get out of the jamming range, but don't lose them."
"I'll try. Let's hope the jammer's range isn't too wide." The driver took a deep breath and slowed the car a bit.
When they were three car lengths behind, the passenger shouted excitedly, "Got a signal!"
He quickly dialed John's number. "Mr. Williams, someone's posing as us and has taken Jasper and Mia!"
John gripped his phone tightly, a vein throbbing in his forehead. He immediately suspected Isabella or Michael.
"Stay on them. Don't let them take Jasper and Mia away. I'm sending backup now!" John barked, then hung up and started coordinating reinforcements.
Meanwhile, Mike noticed the other car was still on their tail. He tapped the steering wheel lightly, and the signal jamming device turned off.
"Looks like we have a signal now. I'll call Mr. Williams," Mike said, pretending to be excited.
Jasper had planned to make the call himself, but hearing Mike's words, he decided to let Mike handle it.
Mike placed his phone on the dashboard and dialed a contact labeled "John." The call was answered after two rings.
"Did you get them?" a deep voice that sounded like John's asked.
"Yeah, Mr. Williams. We've got them, but there's another group pretending to be us. They claim to be your people and are trying to take Mr. and Mrs. Taylor. I think they might be sent by Isabella," Mike said seriously.
"I understand. I'll send more support. Make sure Mr. and Mrs. Taylor are safe," the voice on the phone replied.
"Yes, sir!" Mike responded loudly.
After the call ended, Jasper couldn't shake the feeling that something was off. He turned to Mia and whispered, "Do you feel like something's weird?"
Mia shook her head. "No. Why?"
Jasper hesitated, then shook his head. He couldn't pinpoint what was bothering him; it was like a cloud over his mind.
Meanwhile, Michael was lounging in a chair with his eyes closed, surrounded by his subordinates waiting for orders.
A subordinate approached him after finishing a call.
"Mr. Williams, Mike reported that John's men have shown up. They might have figured out our plan," the subordinate said in a voice eerily similar to John's.
Michael opened his eyes and waved a hand. "Stick to the plan."
The subordinates nodded and hurried out, jumping into cars and speeding towards Jasper and Mia's location.
Just then, Jerry rushed in. "Mr. Williams, we just heard-John's got a whole army on the move!"
Michael nodded. "I expected as much."
Jerry continued, "But there's something odd about Bianca. She's going off on her own, not sticking with John."
Michael's eyes widened slightly. "Bianca isn't with John?"
Jerry shook his head. "No. She split from John; our team saw it. She's been acting all paranoid, always looking behind her. She'd have lost them if our trackers weren't pros."
"Get to the point. What did she do after separating from John?" Michael asked, narrowing his eyes.
"She met up with a bunch of people who were all real respectful. They talked about something in the development area, but our guy couldn't get close enough to hear. Then they all took off in cars. Our tracker thinks they might be packing heat," Jerry explained.
Michael drummed his fingers on the armrest. "Did our people follow them?"
Jerry shook his head regretfully. "No, the tracker was alone, and the group had strong counter-surveillance measures. To avoid detection, I told him to keep on Bianca's tail."
