Chapter 465
Amelia's eyes went wide as she saw Daniel helping an old lady across the street. She blinked, trying to wrap her head around it.
"Wait, am I seeing this right? Is that really happening? Is that guy helping the old lady my dad?" Amelia turned to Benjamin, totally confused.
Benjamin squinted at the scene. "Looks like him, but would your dad really do that? Maybe that lady is his mom?"
Amelia shook her head. "No way, my grandma passed away a long time ago."
"Then who is she? And why is your dad helping her?" Benjamin asked, just as puzzled.
Rolling her eyes, Amelia shot back, "If I knew, would I be asking you? Weren't you supposed to keep him away from me?"
Feeling embarrassed, Benjamin scratched his head. He had expected Michael to handle Daniel, not see him in the city.
"Hold on a second, let me make a quick call," Benjamin said, reaching for his phone.
Meanwhile, Michael was chilling in the yard, soaking up the winter sun. Despite the cold, he found comfort in the warmth.
Answering Benjamin's call, Michael asked casually, "What's up? Are you having more problems with Amelia?"
Hearing the voice on the other end of the line, Amelia raised an eyebrow.
"Sweetheart, you seem to have quite a problem with me, don't you?," Amelia teased Benjamin with a smile.
Nervously, Benjamin explained, "I only call when I'm puzzled. Our relationship is fine."
Michael sensed something was up, especially with Amelia in the background.
"What's going on then?" Michael inquired.
Benjamin quickly told Michael about spotting Daniel, looking for an explanation.
Michael raised an eyebrow, remembering the situation. After the bet with Isabella, he had forgotten about it. The bet was just a game between spouses.
Surprised by Daniel's actions, Michael remarked, "Looks like he's doing a good deed."
"Why the silence? Shouldn't this be easy for you? Why is he still around?" Benjamin vented his frustration.
Shrugging, Michael replied, "Amelia's there, right? I'll talk to her. Dealing with her dad is Isabella's call."
Michael then shared Isabella's plan with Amelia and Benjamin.
After hearing the plan, Benjamin exclaimed, "Wait, are you serious? Getting a gangster to reform that jerk? Are you for real?"
Smirking, Michael retorted, "Do I sound like I'm joking? What do you think you saw?"
Benjamin fell silent, realizing they had witnessed Daniel assisting the elderly.
Amelia was shocked to learn about Isabella's involvement.
"I wonder, did the gang really manage to turn my dad around?" Amelia asked, eyeing Daniel in the distance with uncertainty.
By now, Daniel had helped the elderly person and was driving off towards his destination.
Benjamin shrugged and started the car. "Instead of guessing, let's go ask him."
Following Daniel to a supermarket, Benjamin parked as Daniel stepped out and spotted them.
Daniel was surprised to see Amelia, tears welling up in his eyes. He rushed towards her, crying.
"My dear daughter, I messed up. I shouldn't have treated you and your mom that way. Can you forgive me?" Daniel pleaded tearfully.
Taken aback, Benjamin stepped in front of Amelia.
"Daniels, what's going on? We have a roof to fix," two gang members approached, looking displeased.
Confused, Benjamin asked the gang members, "What's the deal? Did this guy really change? How did you do it?"
One of the gang members recognized Amelia as Daniel's daughter.
Waving casually, the gang member said, "Turning him around wasn't hard. Whenever he acted up, we just gave him a good whipping! That straightened him out!"
Benjamin and Amelia winced. As a doctor, Benjamin noticed the scars on Daniel's body from the whippings.
"Amelia, I know I messed up. Please ask Jake to let me go. I promise to change. Please believe me!" Daniel pleaded through tears.
Daniel knew Jake wouldn't go easy on him. He was certain Amelia had sought help from someone powerful, hence the harsh punishment.
Seeing Daniel's scars, Amelia felt a twinge of sympathy. But Benjamin's words reinforced her decision.
"Sweetheart, it's only been two weeks, but the pain he caused you spans years. And remember, you can't trust the promises of an abuser!" Benjamin's words bolstered Amelia's resolve.
Coldly, Amelia addressed Daniel, "Jake did the right thing. You need to change, even if it takes a whip. Take him away, I don't want to see him."
Amelia's final words were directed at the two gang members.
