Chapter 151
After hanging up the phone, Isabella got straight to work. She had a plan to deal with her parents and just needed to follow it step by step.
Meanwhile, Michael hung up his phone, stroked his chin, and called Jerry over.
"I need you to find a top-notch private investigator to dig up dirt on Jasper and Mia. I want all the negative info you can find," Michael ordered.
Jerry nodded and left immediately.
Isabella was busy working when she got a call from the police station, requesting her presence.
Confused, she took a leave from Dwayne and headed to the station.
When she got there, she found out that her old apartment had been broken into by some thugs. They not only picked the lock but also did an illegal live stream from inside her place and caused some damage.
Isabella watched a playback of the live stream and found it laughable.
Just another fool who bought into Jasper's lies. Or maybe he didn't care if Jasper was lying; he just wanted the fame.
Seeing her old place defaced with graffiti made Isabella furious, even though she didn't live there anymore.
"I'll get a lawyer. You can rot in jail," Isabella coldly told the troublemaker before getting ready to leave the station.
Just then, a handsome young man walked up to her.
A police officer introduced him, "This is Joseph Davis, the manager of your apartment building. He found the break-in and had security catch the intruder and bring him here."
Isabella looked Joseph up and down. He seemed familiar. More importantly, his last name was Davis, and he carried himself with a lot of poise. One of the four major families was the Davis family, so he was probably from that family.
"Isabella, do you remember me? We used to play together before you turned ten," Joseph said, extending his hand.
Isabella was momentarily stunned. When she was ten, her grandfather was still alive, and she had a prominent status. The kids she played with were all from the four major families, so Joseph was indeed one of them.
"You really don't remember me? That makes me kinda sad," Joseph said, pretending to be hurt.
Feeling a bit awkward, Isabella shook hands with Joseph. Since he was an old acquaintance, even if she didn't remember him, she should be polite.
"I'm sorry. Maybe it's just been too long. You do look familiar, but my childhood memories are pretty vague," Isabella said politely.
Joseph withdrew his hand and smiled. "It's okay. Childhood memories fade. We're very sorry that an intruder gained access to your apartment due to our oversight. We will cover all repair and legal costs. Consider it our way of apologizing."
Isabella was a bit surprised by how accommodating Joseph was. But then again, considering his prominent family background, she figured he wouldn't mind covering the expenses.
She didn't hesitate and accepted Joseph's offer.
"In that case, how about we have dinner together after work? We can catch up on old times," Joseph suggested with a smile.
Isabella politely declined, "Sorry, my husband has already prepared dinner at home. Maybe another time when I'm free."
Joseph raised an eyebrow. He had heard rumors about Isabella being married but had been skeptical. Her firm refusal made him reconsider.
"In that case, I won't keep you. Let's exchange contact information so we can stay in touch regarding the compensation and lawsuit," Joseph said, pulling out his phone.
Isabella hesitated briefly but agreed. After all, his reasoning made sense.
After exchanging contact information, Isabella left the police station. Joseph watched her leave for a good ten seconds before turning away, a hint of regret in his eyes.
"Looks like she really is married," Joseph muttered to himself.
After leaving the police station, Isabella checked the time. It was almost the end of her workday, and she had finished her tasks, so there was no need to return to the office. She asked Leo to take her back to the villa.
Michael hadn't returned home yet, probably still at the office.
Lying on the bed, Isabella opened the news about her. Since Jasper released that video, reporters had also interviewed Mia.
Using the same tactics, Mia cried on camera, begging Isabella to leave Michael and return to her side, portraying herself as a loving mother.
Predictably, the comments were filled with sympathy for Mia and insults towards Isabella.
Isabella glanced at the news and then closed it, thinking, 'My parents' aren't this clever. It must be Bianca's doing.'
Thinking of Bianca, Isabella suddenly remembered that Benjamin had mentioned investigating Bianca's illness.
Isabella immediately called Benjamin, only to be surprised when Amelia answered.
"Amelia? Why are you answering Benjamin's phone? Are you two together?" Isabella asked excitedly and curiously.
On the other end, Amelia blushed. "You misunderstood. I'm moving today, and Benjamin came to help. He's busy right now. When the phone rang, I saw your name on the screen and answered."
Isabella remembered that Amelia had moved to a safe house arranged by Benjamin to avoid Paxton. Now, it seemed she was moving back.
"By the way, Isabella, I just heard about the news from Benjamin. Are you okay? Please, take care of yourself!" Amelia said worriedly.
Isabella smiled and shook her head. "Don't worry. Such petty tricks can't hurt me. I already have a plan to fight back."
