Chapter 453
Benjamin shot Michael a playful look.
Michael ignored him, tossed the blanket aside, and hopped out of bed.
"Seriously? You're supposed to be resting, not jumping around. Shouldn't you be waiting for your lovely wife to pamper you?" Benjamin kept teasing.
Michael rolled his eyes. "This isn't the time for jokes. Isabella can't find out who I really am. Where's the back door? I need to get out of here."
Benjamin walked over to the window, took a peek outside, and sighed. "We're close to the back door, but those guys in black suits? They're definitely Mason's men. He's here for you, no doubt."
Michael pulled the curtain back and took a careful look. Sure enough, there were several stern-looking guards by the back door.
His face darkened. He recognized those guards; they were Mason's top guys.
"Looks like Mason's here just for you, and he's making sure you don't slip away. What's the plan?" Benjamin raised an eyebrow, smirking.
Michael shot him an annoyed look. "You must have a plan. Spill it. How do I get out of here?"
"Alright, alright. Follow me." Benjamin saw the urgency in Michael's eyes and shrugged, leading him out of the room.
Downstairs, Mason listened to the guards' report with a calm expression. "Mr. Williams, all exits are sealed, and the medical staff are ready to welcome you."
Mason hadn't initially heard about the attack on Isabella and her husband, but the news eventually leaked from the police station. Whether Police Chief Alan had done it on purpose or not, the four big families found out that Paxton's death was linked to his attack on Isabella and her husband.
Mason was frantic when he heard about the assassination attempt. He quickly found out which hospital Isabella was in and rushed over with his men. But his curiosity about Isabella's husband grew, leading him to take drastic measures like sealing off the entire hospital.
'I hope my suspicions are wrong, dear nephew,' Mason thought, his gaze deep and troubled.
Isabella walked out of the hospital building, spotting Mason. She ran up to him, smiling.
"Mason, what brings you here?" she asked, holding his hand.
Mason looked at her kindly. "I heard about the attack on you and your husband. I had to check on you."
"I'm so sorry, Mason. I didn't mean to worry you," Isabella said, feeling guilty. She didn't want Mason to know about the incident, fearing it might worsen his already fragile health.
"I'd rather you come to me directly when you hit a rough patch, so I can help out while I'm still around. But it looks like you've already handled things," Mason teased with a grin.
Isabella, feeling a bit embarrassed, scratched her head. "Mason, I'll be straight with you. I didn't kill Paxton, Zoey, or any of the Brown Family. I think someone's trying to set me up."
Mason gave her a long look. He could only half-believe what she was saying, but he wasn't mad. Being cautious with unknown enemies was always smart.
"You look fine, not too banged up, so that's a relief. But I heard your husband got pretty messed up. I'll go check on him and meet him," Mason said, smiling at Isabella.
Isabella hesitated. She wasn't thrilled about Mason meeting Michael, who might have already drawn too much attention.
"Are you worried I'll hurt him or blow his cover?" Mason asked with a faint smile.
Shaking her head, Isabella replied, "If it were anyone else, I'd say no, but I trust you. Let's go this way, Mason."
Mason followed Isabella upstairs. Along the way, many medical staff greeted them.
Mason nodded back and noticed other subordinates in patient gowns wandering around.
Mason usually kept a low profile, but this time he was making a scene because he was worried that if Michael was indeed Isabella's husband, he might try to slip away disguised as medical staff.
Meanwhile, Michael was getting ready to escape. But when he saw the disguise Benjamin had prepared, he looked disgusted.
"Do I really have to wear this nasty outfit? Did you pull it off a corpse?" Michael wrinkled his nose, glaring at Benjamin.
Rolling his eyes, Benjamin replied, "Quit whining. If we waste any more time, we'll get caught. This outfit is specially prepared. It's sprayed with a super gross-smelling liquid. But don't worry, it won't mess with your wounds. Once you're on the stretcher, I'll do your makeup to make you look like you have a severe infectious disease. The guards won't dare to check you."
Michael hesitated but knew Benjamin's plan was worth a shot.
"Alright, let's do it." Michael put on the stinky outfit and lay down on the stretcher.
Benjamin quickly grabbed his makeup kit and started working on Michael's face.
In less than two minutes, Benjamin was done.
"Wow, you look like a middle-aged guy who got wrecked by a nasty disease. It's pretty convincing," Benjamin said, pinching his nose.
"Can we go now? I'm about to suffocate in this thing," Michael urged impatiently.
Smiling, Benjamin changed into a protective suit and pushed Michael towards the back door. But as soon as they got there, Mason's guards stopped them.
