Chapter 368
While Michael went off to find Benjamin, Isabella slipped out of the hotel too.
Once she was outside, she gave Jerry a call.
Jerry, who was busy at work, was caught off guard by Isabella's call. They had exchanged numbers, but she hardly ever called him.
Seeing her name pop up on his phone, Jerry was pretty shocked.
He answered cautiously, "Hello, Mrs. Williams, is everything okay?"
Isabella chuckled, "Why do you sound so nervous? Are you up to something behind Mr. Williams' back?"
Jerry let out an awkward laugh. "No way! I'm just surprised you called. Is there something you need?"
Isabella's tone turned serious. "Remember when we were looking into Bianca's medical records in Lumaria? You hired a really good detective there, right?"
"Yeah, do you need his contact info?" Jerry asked.
Isabella nodded, "Yes, I need his contact info for something."
Jerry felt relieved, thinking she might have found something wrong and was going to confront him.
"Alright, Mrs. Williams, I'll send it over. Can you tell me what you need to investigate? Maybe I can help," Jerry said, curious.
Isabella shook her head with a smile, "No need, it's about Mr. Williams. I'll handle it myself. Don't tell him. It's our little secret, okay?"
Her last words had a hint of a threat, and then she hung up.
Jerry stared at his phone, puzzled.
'Why does she need a private detective? Usually, it's to check if the husband's cheating, but Mr. Williams? No way,' Jerry thought, finding it hard to believe.
He knew Michael loved Isabella, so cheating seemed impossible.
'So, Mr. Williams must have done something to make Mrs. Williams suspicious,' Jerry concluded.
Ignoring Isabella's warning, Jerry decided to inform Michael. After all, Michael was the one who paid his salary.
Michael, who had just returned from seeing Benjamin, got a call from Jerry.
"What did you say? My wife hired a private detective to see if I'm cheating?" Michael's first reaction was to think Jerry was joking.
Jerry shared his suspicions, but Michael wasn't having it.
"Do you really think Isabella suspects me of cheating? She asked you for the detective's contact. Would you keep this from me?" Michael said, rolling his eyes.
Jerry was taken aback for a moment, then it hit him. Isabella and the others were just tourists in Lumaria; they couldn't stay long. Why hire a private detective there? Even if she suspected Michael of cheating, she'd investigate back home.
Michael, hearing the silence, knew Jerry had figured it out.
"Isabella must be having the detective look into something else. Send her the contact info right away," Michael said.
Jerry nodded. "I already sent it after her call. I just wanted to keep you in the loop."
Jerry paused, then asked, "Mr. Williams, any idea what Mrs. Williams wants to investigate?"
Michael rolled his eyes, "You're asking me? If she doesn't want to tell, she has her reasons. Pushing her would just mess things up."
On the other end, Jerry rolled his eyes too, feeling like he was sticking his nose where it didn't belong.
"Get in touch with that detective. Have him update us after reporting to Isabella. I don't need to know what she's investigating, but if something happens, I want to be able to help," Michael said before hanging up.
Michael was curious, but he wouldn't force Isabella to spill the beans.
Jerry sighed, shaking his head. "I'm just an employee, but I have to get involved in your family drama. Great, another day without a break."
Jerry tried calling the detective, but the call wouldn't go through. Isabella was probably already in touch with him.
When Isabella got back to the hotel, she found Michael lounging on the bed, playing with his phone.
"Hey, you're back. Hungry? Want to grab a bite?" Michael asked with a smile.
Isabella stood by the bed, looking at him. "I was out for a while. Didn't you wonder where I was?"
Michael grinned, "Even though we're married, we need our space. I can't keep tabs on you 24/7. Besides, I trust you. If you were gone too long, I'd call the cops."
Isabella rolled her eyes and sat next to him. "Did Jerry call you just now?"
Michael hesitated for a moment, then shook his head. "If I said he didn't, would you believe me?"
Annoyed, Isabella smacked his thigh. "Don't mess with me! I know Jerry told you about me wanting to hire a detective."
Michael chuckled, leaned over, and kissed her cheek. "Jerry was freaked out, thinking you were trying to catch me cheating."
"You guys always stick together," Isabella rolled her eyes again.
Michael shrugged. "Can't help it; I'm the one who signs his checks."
Isabella gave Michael a cold stare. He met her gaze.
"So, dear, what exactly are you looking into?" Michael asked, genuinely curious.
