Chapter 158

When they finally got to the hospital, Benjamin felt a wave of relief wash over him.

Michael walked up and gave him a pat on the shoulder. "Come on, man. You're a top-notch surgeon. Can't you tell Amelia's injury isn't that bad? Why are you so freaked out?"

Benjamin shot him a look and snorted. "Seriously? You're married and still asking dumb questions like that? Who was it that freaked out and insisted his wife be hospitalized for a sprained ankle? I'm not Isabella's doctor, but I bet her doc was pulling his hair out."

Back in the day, if Michael heard Benjamin talk to him like that, he would've put him in his place. But now, Michael just smiled and sighed. "Yeah, you're right. That's love for you. You can't fake worrying about someone getting hurt."

Isabella came out of the doctor's office and saw them chatting in the hallway. "What are you two gossiping about? The doc gave Amelia some meds. She just needs to rest at home."

"Rest at home? Are you kidding me? Her injury is serious; she should be in the hospital!" Benjamin shot up from his chair, looking all serious.

Isabella blinked and smirked. "Listen to yourself. You're a top surgeon! Amelia's injury isn't even a fracture!"

Benjamin's face turned a bit red. "Exactly, because I'm a great doctor, I can see all the potential complications. Amelia's got no one to help her at home; she can barely hop on one foot. What if she slips and bangs her head on a cabinet? In the hospital, she's got doctors and nurses looking after her. It's the safest place for her!"

Isabella pointed to the doctor's office. "Amelia's still in there. Go tell her yourself."

"I will, and she'll agree with me," Benjamin said, storming into the office.

Isabella didn't follow. Instead, she pulled Michael aside for a quiet chat.

"I think Benjamin's even more lovestruck than you. Love really does make people blind," Isabella said seriously.

Michael wrapped his arm around her shoulder and whispered in her ear, "You're right, babe. Love does make people blind. You've been on your feet all day. Aren't they sore? How about I carry you back?"

Isabella's face turned a bit pink, and she pinched Michael's waist. "You joker! Is your back not sore anymore? Think you've got the energy to tease me?"

Michael felt her hand on his waist, knowing she wasn't really pinching hard. He smirked. "You can test my strength anytime. It's the weekend, after all."

Isabella's face turned even redder, and she glared at him before walking into the doctor's office.

Inside, the doctor and Benjamin were in a heated argument.

Benjamin insisted, "Amelia has to be hospitalized today. Even if God himself tells her to go home, I won't agree. That's final!"

The doctor, fuming, pointed at Benjamin's nose and yelled, "You're a doctor too. Can't you see her condition isn't serious? Stop wasting medical resources. There are plenty of patients who actually need these beds!"

"That just shows how crappy the medical facilities are here. I'm transferring her to my hospital," Benjamin said, trying to push Amelia's wheelchair.

The doctor, just as angry, waved him off. "Fine, transfer her if you want! Get her out of my office!"

Amelia covered her face, too embarrassed to say anything. The office was packed with other patients, their families, and some doctors and nurses, all watching the drama unfold.

The doctor noticed Isabella and Michael standing at the door. He frowned and asked, "Are you two friends with this guy? Why don't you talk some sense into him?"

Isabella and Michael exchanged a look and shook their heads at the same time. "No, no, you've got it wrong! We don't really know him!"

Feeling awkward, they quickly left the hospital.

Benjamin started pushing Amelia's wheelchair, ready to take her to his hospital, but Amelia suddenly stopped him.

"Isabella, Michael, could you two leave us for a moment? I need to talk to Benjamin," Amelia said, looking at them.

Isabella nodded and pulled Michael away. "Let's go and give them some space. If I'm not mistaken, Benjamin's whole lovelife depends on what he does next."

Before leaving, Michael gave Benjamin an encouraging look, hoping he would nail it this time.

Benjamin took a deep breath and pushed Amelia to a quiet spot under a tree.

Michael and Isabella hadn't gone far when Isabella suddenly pulled him onto a different path, sneaking towards the tree.

"Didn't you say to give them space? What are we doing? Eavesdropping?" Michael asked, his mouth twitching slightly.

Isabella rolled her eyes. "I did say to give them space, but that doesn't mean we just sit here doing nothing! Let's at least listen in. That way, if things go south, we'll have a clue what happened."

"You're just being nosy," Michael muttered, rolling his eyes too, but he didn't object.

Meanwhile, Benjamin and Amelia sat under the tree and started talking.

"Benjamin, I want to ask you something. Do you really like me?" Amelia asked directly, looking at him.

Benjamin took a deep breath and nodded firmly. "Yes, I do. I'm very sure of it."

"When did you start liking me?" Amelia asked with a smile, tilting her head.

Benjamin had thought about this question many times. He looked at Amelia seriously and said, "Ever since we first met, I thought you were very beautiful. And the more I got to know you, the more I liked your personality."

Benjamin continued to pour his heart out, and Amelia looked at him with increasingly tender eyes.

Hiding behind the tree, Isabella and Michael exchanged a glance, feeling confident that things would work out between the two.
