Chapter 229

Michael listened closely to Jerry's report, his eyes narrowing as he mentally mapped out the city.

Michael's eyes snapped open. "If I'm not mistaken, Jasper and Mia should be getting close to the development area, right?"

Jerry quickly checked the map on his phone and nodded. "Yeah, it's on their route."

Michael's brow furrowed in thought. He couldn't quite figure out Bianca's endgame with these armed men.

"Jerry, what do you think those people are after?" Michael asked.

Jerry paused, frowning as he thought it over. "Those guys have guns. Maybe they're here to kill Jasper and Mia? But it doesn't make sense. If that couple died, Bianca wouldn't get their shares. According to inheritance laws, Mrs. Williams would inherit their shares directly."

Michael's eyes narrowed even more. "Exactly! Isabella would inherit the shares. Bianca wants to stop Isabella from getting them!"

Jerry's eyes widened. "You mean Bianca plans to take out Mrs. Williams?"

Michael rolled his eyes. "Think it through, Jerry. Bianca doesn't need to actually kill Jasper and Mia. She could frame Isabella for trying to kill them, then play the hero and rescue them. Jasper'd probably hand over the shares then."

"That's wicked smart. No way a woman came up with that, right?" Jerry said, surprised.

"Never underestimate a woman, Jerry. There have been plenty of smart women in politics. It's interesting - Bianca's got some hidden allies we didn't know about. Think John knows about them?" Michael smirked.

Jerry shook his head. "I have no idea."

Michael's smile turned cold. "I bet John has no clue about them. They might have been the ones who took out Odette."

"Should we capture these people?" Jerry asked.

Michael squinted. "They framed my wife, so why not frame them back? Go find me a knife"

After Michael laid out his plan, Jerry's eyes widened, but he didn't question it and quickly went to carry out the orders.

Once Jerry left, Michael called another subordinate. "If you encounter armed thugs, retreat immediately. Let John's men deal with them."

With that, Michael hung up, confident his subordinates would execute his orders perfectly.

Meanwhile, Mike, who was driving, received the latest instructions through his earpiece. He was curious about the unexpected third party but knew it wasn't his concern. His job was to follow orders.

"How much longer until we get there? That car is still tailing us. When will John's backup arrive?" Jasper asked, glancing anxiously at the rearview mirror.

Mike tapped the steering wheel, his face serious. "They should be on their way. Just hang tight."

"Patience is the last thing I have right now!" Jasper's unease was growing. He decided to call John to speed things up.

Mike frowned as Jasper pulled out his phone, thinking about reactivating the signal jammer. But then he spotted something ahead.

"Our backup's here," Mike said loudly, pointing through the windshield.

Jasper and Mia saw several black sedans approaching. One of them maneuvered behind their car, blocking the pursuers. The rest of the convoy surrounded them, continuing to drive.

Jasper and Mia sighed in relief. With all these guards around, they felt more secure and were anticipating to meet John."

However, as the convoy entered the development area and approached an intersection, another line of black cars appeared, blocking their path.

Mike slammed on the brakes to avoid a collision.

A group of men wielding clubs emerged from the opposing cars. Mike's expression turned steely as he retrieved a baton from under his seat.

"Mr. Taylor, Mrs. Taylor, we're in trouble. Stay in the car; it's the safest place," Mike instructed before exiting the vehicle.

Jasper and Mia felt a surge of panic, especially Mia, who was trembling with fear.

"Are these Isabella's people? Or her husband's? Damn it, are they trying to kill us?" Mia screamed in terror.

"Shut up! Damn it, I should've seen this coming. If they kill us, she will inherit our shares!" Jasper's face was grim.

Mia looked shocked. "But Isabella severed ties with us, didn't she?"

Jasper sneered. "So what? She still has the inheritance right! Looks like she's gone totally heartless and shameless!"

Convinced that the attackers were sent by Isabella, Jasper and Mia locked themselves in the car.

Outside, Mike faced the approaching thugs, smirking coldly. "Looks like we all have the same goal."

One of the thugs snarled, "We're here on Mr. Williams' orders to take Mr. and Mrs. Taylor. Back off if you don't want to die."

Mike nonchalantly picked his nose and flicked the booger onto the man's polished shoe. "Don't try to scare me. We work for the real Mr. Williams. Who the hell are you?"

The man's face twisted with fury at the insult, his patience snapping. "Take them down! Grab Jasper and Mia!"

He raised his club and charged, followed by his men.

"Show these bastards what we're made of!" Mike yelled, raising his baton and rushing forward.

Chaos erupted as the two groups clashed, the sound of metal striking metal filling the air. The expressions on every face were fierce, and no one held back.
