Chapter 253
Isabella became a little worried after listening to Michael's speculation.
"I've never met John's uncle, don't even know his name, but from what I gather, he doesn't strike me as ruthless. I doubt he'd harm his own nephew," Isabella declared with conviction.
Michael arched an eyebrow. "So you place your trust in a man you've never met?"
"It's a feeling, a woman's intuition is very powerful. Wait a minute, dear, you're not jealous, are you?" Isabella teasingly asked.
Michael chuckled, thinking, 'Maybe a touch of jealousy before, but after talking with Benjamin last time, I felt like such a fool. Why would I be jealous of myself?'
"I won't be jealous of him. His wealth may surpass mine, but I have a treasure far more precious at my side-something he can never possess!" Michael said with a serene smile.
"What treasure are you talking about?" Isabella asked curiously.
A smile played on Michael's lips. "My greatest treasure is of course you! A beautiful, gentle, wise, and intelligent wife!"
A faint blush warmed Isabella's cheeks. Michael was at it again, showering her with compliments.
"Sweetheart," Michael grinned, "If you become some mega-tycoon, I'm retiring. You're supporting me from now on!"
Isabella responded earnestly, "And if that day comes, I'll happily support you-especially since you're handsome and fit! But you've got to take care of me, and remember to take your medicine."
Isabella's last sentence made Michael's smile freeze on his face.
After saying the last sentence, Isabella hung up the phone, and Michael could vividly imagine her non-stop laughter echoing in the room.
Michael helplessly covered his face. "Damn, I'm getting teased about this! It's not like I'm dysfunctional. I'm just pacing myself so I don't have problems later in life."
Jerr, seated in the car, his shoulders slightly trembling with his head down, looking like he was struggling to hold back laughter.
"If you want to laugh, then do so," Michael intoned helplessly.
Jerry burst into a series of laughter, holding his stomach.
After a few minutes, the laughter finally stopped.
Jerry wiped the mirth from his face, looked at Michael and said, "So, Mr. Williams, what do we do next? Mrs. Williams and John are both in that hotel. If you show up, there's a good chance you'll be recognized by both sides, and your identity will be exposed."
Michael lightly tapped his own leg. "Have someone investigate what Paxton is up to now."
Jerry was taken aback. "Mr. Williams, do you suspect Paxton's involvement in John's car explosion?"
Michael nodded. "I didn't mention Bianca in front of Mason or Isabella. This attack was probably aimed at her. We just handed over the evidence of Bianca's crimes to Paxton, and today John's car-with Bianca in it-exploded. Coincidence? I doubt it."
"Does Paxton really have the guts to do that?" Jerry queried, his expression filled with incredulity.
Jerry didn't think Paxton would actually do it. Going after Bianca alone made sense, but John was there too! Paxton and Mason had beef, and he'd threatened Isabella. But Isabella's situation was different. She wasn't really Mason's granddaughter. There could have been a deal if Isabella got hurt, but John? He was the heir. Killing him would be like starting a family war.
It would not be a wise choice for the Brown Family to confront the current number one Williams Family with their strength. If Paxton actually did this, it wouldn't be the Williamses coming after him-it'd be his own brothers and sisters.
Michael sighed lightly, rubbing his forehead. "Paxton's not usually this reckless, but as a father, he might have been driven to extremes. We need to investigate."
Jerry nodded, then took out his phone to start assigning tasks to his subordinates.
On the other side, Paxton, brooding in his study, also learned about the explosion of the car.
"Who could have done these things? What is their purpose?" It also occurred to Paxton that Michael might be framed. "Could it be the other two families? Is the goal to create conflict between John and his uncle?"
Jonah, also in the study, immediately suspected Paxton's wife, Zoey, when he heard about the car explosion.
Jonah's suspicions burned, but the fear of Paxton's wrath held him back, his face a mask of inner turmoil.
Paxton saw Jonah's conflicted expression and a bad feeling washed over him. "What is it? Do you know something about the explosion?"
Paxton squinted, his cold gaze fixed on Jonah's face.
Jonah swallowed, and finally voiced his suspicion.
"Yesterday, Mrs. Brown came to the hospital to visit Ms. Brown. I told her about my guess regarding Bianca, and at that time I noticed her emotions were off. I told Mrs. Brown to trust you and not interfere with your arrangements. She agreed at the time, but her expression was too calm, I'm worried..." Jonah's words were not finished when Paxton grabbed a vase on the table and smashed it hard on the ground.
"Do you believe everything she says? Why didn't you tell me about this right away!" Paxton was in a rage, his voice thundered with fury.
"That foolish woman! If she really did this, I can't imagine what John and his grandfather would do to our family! This'll ruin us all!" Paxton trembled with uncontrollable anger.
"Where is Zoey now? Get her back to me immediately!" Paxton roared .
Suddenly the study door burst open, and Zoey walked in.
