Chapter 254

Zoey knew she couldn't hide it anymore that she had sent someone to assassinate Bianca when she saw the news, so she decided to confess to Paxton about it. Yet, as she approached the door of the study, Paxton's voice, seething with fury, reached her ears.

Zoey pushed open the door, cool as a cucumber, and looked at Paxton, who was fuming. "No need to play detective," she said, all casual. "I did it."

Jonah's face instantly turned ashen, and Paxton, in a tempest of rage, struck Zoey across the face with a mighty blow.

"You vile creature, you're going to drag the whole family to hell! I'll kill you, you idiot!" Paxton grabbed a decoration from the table and prepared to throw it at Zoey.

"Mr. Brown, please calm down," Jonah intervened, grasping Paxton's arm with desperate strength.

"Get out of my way, don't you dare stop me, I'm going to kill this woman." Paxton, furious, tried to shake off Jonah.

With all his strength, Jonah held Paxton back. "Mr. Brown, it won't do any good to kill Mrs. Brown now. Why not hear her out? There might still be a way to fix things."

Under Jonah's control, Paxton's rage gradually subsided. He stared at Zoey and asked coldly, "Tell me, how did you arrange this?"

Zoey remained calm, seemingly unaffected by the pain on her face.

She looked at Paxton indifferently and said, "Some of the younger family members attended the banquet. I learned from them that John would bring Bianca over, so I had people disguise themselves as a bellhop and a security guard, waiting for John to arrive in his car. After John appeared, the security guard took control of the surveillance, while the bellhop distracted John's driver, and then had someone ambush in the parking lot to plant a bomb in his car."

"The surveillance was controlled? That's great, as long as the surveillance is controlled, it won't be easily discovered." Jonah sighed with a fleeting sense of reprieve.

Paxton looked coldly at Jonah and said, "It's not that simple. Where are those involved now?"

Zoey calmly replied, "After planting the bomb, they retreated. The person who detonated the bomb was not in the hotel, and he also retreated after the explosion. However, this guy seemed to have poor eyesight and detonated the bomb before Bianca got into the car."

"You should be grateful for his poor eyesight. Otherwise, we would have been doomed by now!" Paxton snorted coldly, then directed his gaze back to Jonah.

"Get rid of all the people involved in the explosion. Only the dead can keep the secret." Paxton commanded with chilling finality.

Jonah nodded immediately and set about making the necessary arrangements.

Zoey did not expect Paxton to be so ruthless. She wanted to put in a good word for those underlings, but Paxton shut her down.

"Put away your pity! If any of these people betray us, Mason will come after us for sure! Once the two families start a war, guess what the other two families will do? As the head of the family, I have to think about the fate of the entire family." Paxton angrily slammed the table.

"How ridiculous! You betrayed your own daughter and wife, yet you claimed you're thinking about the entire family!" Zoey screamed angrily, fed up with the sight of Paxton in front of her.

"You insisted on marring Pearl off to John's uncle. Do you know how humiliated Pearl was in front of Michael? She became the laughingstock of the whole city! Even though that damn guy said he was married, you still want Pearl to seduce him! Is that how you care for the family?  Do you care about Pearl's dignity at all ? And for the sake of taking the family business overseas, you actually asked me to befriend Michael's wife? Do you know how Michael humiliated your daughter!" Her words cut through the air like a blade, each one piercing Paxton's heart.

Paxton, for once, found no retort. He averted his gaze, even not daring to meet Zoey's eyes.

Tears welled in Zoey's eyes, spilling over as she continued. "Now you know that Bianca is likely the one who harmed Pearl, but what have you done? Nothing! You're just quietly waiting for some damn opportunity. When will that opportunity come? If it never comes, will you just let Pearl's suffering go unavenged? As a father, you've failed in your duty, but as a mother, I will avenge my daughter!" Zoey screamed, her eyes blazing with hateful anger.

Paxton sighed deeply, and finally sinking into the chair. "I am indeed not a qualified father. But please believe me, I will seek justice for our daughter. Those who hurt her will not go unpunished. I just hope you can temporarily stop targeting Bianca and trust me one more time. Can you do that?"

Paxton looked into Zoey's eyes, and the once elegant Zoey seemed to have aged a lot in that moment.

Zoey wiped away her tears. "Do I have a choice? Even if I refuse, you will shave someone watching me, right? Or just lock me up. Don't worry, I understand your concerns as the head of the family. This is the last time. Even if I want to target Bianca in the future, I won't be able to . John will protect her, so I'm leaving the rest to you."

Without another glance, Zoey turned and left the study.

That night, Zoey took a flight abroad, her unfinished tasks awaiting her-going shopping with Estella.

After Zoey left, Paxton asked Jonah about the fate of those participants.

Jonah reassured him, "Don't worry, Mr. Brown. Everything's been taken care of. Those three overdosed on drugs, tripped out, and accidentally blew themselves up with gas."

Paxton nodded, then said to Jonah, "Spread a rumor that John's uncle plotted to kill John to seize the family property. Remember! Be meticulous; no one must trace it back to us."

Jonah nodded once more and set to work

On the other hand, Michael was at home preparing dinner for Isabella.

Suddenly, Michael received a phone call.

"Mr. Williams, just got the news that three people died in an explosion due to a gas leak today. According to the investigation, the location of the explosion was within the Brown Family's territory," Jerry said on the phone.

Michael nodded indifferently. "Have the identities of those three people been confirmed?"

Jerry replied, "No, the fire from the explosion burned their faces and fingerprints. Their identities cannot be confirmed. The police can only infer that these three people overdosed on drugs, had hallucinations, and accidentally ignited the gas based on some drug residues at the scene."
