Chapter 444
Paxton felt a sharp pain in his chest and looked down in disbelief as the bloodstain on his shirt kept spreading.
A woman's scream pierced the air at the memorial service, right before a bunch of masked, heavily armed guys burst in and started shooting.
Paxton's crew fired back immediately, turning the place into a chaotic battlefield with gunshots and the smell of gunpowder everywhere. The Brown family members screamed and ran for their lives; some got hit, but most managed to escape in the chaos.
Jerry, masked and armed to the teeth, kept his cold eyes on Paxton, shooting at him without mercy. But Paxton's men shielded him and dragged him away.
Zoey rushed to Paxton's side, doing everything she could to help him get away.
Feeling his life slipping away, Paxton looked at Zoey with guilt. "I'm sorry, my dear, for all the hardship over the years. I feel so guilty."
"Don't give me that crap. I wouldn't marry you; I'd rather jump into a river," Zoey snapped, her eyes red with anger.
Paxton remembered meeting Zoey at a banquet when he was young and full of ambition. His dream was to make the family powerful, and Zoey was drawn to his aura, eventually becoming his partner.
Paxton felt a deep guilt towards Zoey because he had sacrificed everything for his family over the years, including his wife and daughter. Only now, facing death, did he realize he hadn't betrayed the family but had failed his own.
"Leave me, take her and run, now! Go find Ms. Foster; she can protect you," Paxton said, pushing Zoey away and ordering his men to take her.
Paxton's men hesitated but eventually decided to get Zoey to safety, despite her protests.
"Even if I run, where can I go? My daughter and husband are still here. Do you expect me to seek revenge for you?" Zoey cried as the men pulled her away.
Paxton sat on the ground, clutching his chest, watching Zoey's figure fade away as his vision blurred.
Then someone stood in front of him.
Paxton looked up at the masked man, feeling like he had seen those eyes before.
"Do I know you? Your eyes look familiar," Paxton asked, confused and weak.
Jerry pulled up his mask, revealing his face.
Paxton, near death, widened his eyes at Jerry, momentarily regaining some strength. He shouted in horror.
"How could it be you! Aren't you Michael's guy? Why are you attacking me? We're partners!" Paxton yelled.
Jerry, with a cold expression, said, "You sent people to kill Mr. Williams and Mrs. Williams. Now we're sending you to your death."
Paxton was stunned for a moment but quickly realized something."Isabella's husband is Michael! If it's him, then everything makes sense! No wonder the four families couldn't figure out his identity. But what about Estella?" Paxton asked, fear creeping in.
Jerry stepped closer, sneering as he pressed the gun against Paxton's chin. "Do you know why I didn't send anyone after your wife? Because Estella was the bait Mr. Williams used to protect Mrs. Williams, and you handed your wife to us."
Paxton's eyes widened, almost tearing up at the corners. He felt a mix of anger and desperation, wanting to fight Jerry. But Jerry just lightly pulled the trigger, the bullet piercing through Paxton's chin and exiting through the back of his head.
Paxton's neck slumped, his eyes showing regret and despair, and he died like that.
Jerry stood up, took a photo of Paxton with his phone, and sent it to Joe.
Meanwhile, a subordinate ran over to Jerry and asked, "Sir, the other members of the Brown Family have all fled. Should we bring them back?"
Jerry shook his head, putting his mask back on. "No need to bother, someone will take care of them. Let's go find Zoey."
On the other side, Zoey, under the protection of several subordinates, finally arrived at Estella's place.
Estella had gotten Zoey's call and led them into her villa when they arrived.
"My husband and daughter are dead because of Isabella and her husband. I will never let them go," Zoey cried, sitting on the sofa and wiping her tears.
Estella looked at Zoey, who had lost her husband and daughter. As a woman, she should have expressed sympathy, but she couldn't bring herself to say anything, even fearing to approach Zoey, worried a gunfight might break out.
Zoey finally noticed Estella's silence. She looked at Estella with suspicion and asked, "Why did you run so far?"
Estella's face looked unnatural. "Because I was worried you might harm me later."
Zoey had a bad feeling in her gut. She stood up in panic from the sofa, questioning Estella, "Did you betray me? Why? With your status, you shouldn't be afraid of anyone's threats."
Estella sighed. She wasn't a fool. After Jerry called her and explained the situation, Estella reviewed all the information she had received and quickly came to a terrifying conclusion.
Isabella was Michael's true wife! When Jerry called her to detain Zoey, his tone was so low, as if a storm was brewing.
If Jerry was so angry, it must be that something happened to Michael or Isabella.
Estella, even if she was truly Michael's wife, she dared not help Zoey now.
"Surrender, Zoey. Your family is finished this time. If you surrender to the police, maybe you can still live." Out of kindness, Estella reminded her.
"I don't need a traitor like you to remind me!" Angry, Zoey grabbed a subordinate's gun, preparing to shoot at Estella.
A bullet pierced through Zoey's palm as a group of people burst into the villa, shooting at Zoey and her men.
