Chapter 414
Michael asked Jerry to take Carol's info to Joe, then he started planning the next steps.
After getting Carol's info, Joe thought it over for a bit and decided to join Isabella's company as a job seeker to get in touch with Carol.
Joe put on a white shirt, a blue tie, black-framed glasses, fixed his hair, and finally shaved his beard.
Joe posed in front of the mirror. Now he looked like a fresh college grad getting ready for an interview at Isabella's company.
"Something's missing," Joe frowned, checking out his reflection.
Suddenly, Joe had an idea. He closed his eyes in front of the mirror and opened them again, with a look of youthful enthusiasm and eagerness.
"Now it feels right. A young grad should have a sense of wonder and curiosity about the world. Can't be looking like a thug," Joe smiled at his reflection.
Joe had previously played a thug to blend in with a gang. The laid-back, slightly rebellious vibe made him feel at ease.
Even after the gang broke up, Joe hadn't completely shaken off his gangster vibe. Now, with a new mission, he needed to disguise himself again.
"Mike, how do I look now?" Joe walked up to Mike, pushed up his glasses, and flashed a genuine smile.
Mike leaned on the table, giving Joe a once-over.
Joe was now wearing a blue suit jacket with a canvas bag slung over his shoulder. He looked much younger after shaving his beard. With his new demeanor, even his old gang buddies might not recognize him.
"Not bad. You look like a fresh college grad, with a hint of naive innocence in your eyes," Mike said, appreciating Joe's disguise.
Joe rolled his eyes. "Mike, I know you've never been a college student, so you're jealous. College kids are the most passionate people around! They're not naive!"
"Alright, Mr. Student Council President Joe. I admit I misspoke, I apologize. So, you heading out now?" Mike raised his hands in surrender, then pointed to the door.
Joe nodded. "I just scheduled a 2 pm interview. I'm ready to go. Even though Ms. Lester is a bit older, I think she'll like my type."
Joe puffed out his chest, showing off his toned chest muscles under the shirt.
Mike rolled his eyes and tossed a set of car keys to Joe. "College student Joe, here's a little car your dad got you as a job-seeking gift."
Joe looked at the keys in his hand, walked to the window, pressed the button on the key, and a car outside honked.
"Where'd you drag this old relic from, a scrapyard? I should've made a resume for a rich job seeker. Then I wouldn't have to drive this junk," Joe muttered.
Mike gave Joe a swift kick in the butt. "Hey, having a car is better than squeezing onto the subway and risking being recognized. Remember, you're playing a kid from an ordinary family, and this car fits your image perfectly."
Joe sighed, brushed off the dust from his pants, and gave Mike a gentlemanly nod before heading downstairs to the old yellow Volkswagen Beetle.
"Let's see if you can turn into Bumblebee, buddy," Joe muttered as he inserted the key into the ignition.
The Beetle made a dull engine noise. After a few tries, it finally started.
"I hope Ms. Lester sees my youth, handsomeness, and ambition and decides to give me a car. I prefer a Porsche," Joe shrugged and drove off.
At Isabella's company, in the HR department.
Carol held a stack of resumes from applicants.
She knew that among these applicants, there were spies planted by the four major families. However, due to the lack of lower-level employees in the company, she had to let these spies in for now and remove them all when the company grew stronger.
But Carol did not allow these spies in her HR department. She looked through the resumes, hoping to find new employees suitable for her department.
Suddenly, Carol stopped at a name. "Jack Sparrow? The name of a pirate captain is quite unique."
Carol took a closer look at the resume. This guy was an ordinary college student, with no outstanding features. The only noteworthy thing was participating in a school football game and winning an award once, but then he never made a name for himself again. He was a very ordinary man.
The only thing that caught Carol's interest was that Jack Sparrow was quite handsome and graduated from the same university as she did.
Carol dialed a phone number. The person on the other end was her former teacher from college, now the head of the academic affairs office.
Carol asked the teacher to investigate Jack to confirm his identity.
Soon, the teacher updated Carol on the investigation results. Jack was indeed a student at their school, with average grades. The important part? His record showed no signs of trouble. He didn't smoke, wasn't really into drinking, and his favorite pastimes were reading and working out. He had tried to pursue the cheerleading captain back in college, but she turned him down, and he hadn't dated anyone since.
"A romantic guy after all." Carol looked at Joe's information, a smile playing on her lips.
When Joe parked and arrived at Isabella's company, he noticed many job seekers who looked like college students, with youthful optimism in their eyes.
'Not bad, it seems like I disguised myself well. At least my demeanor matches theirs.' Joe thought contentedly in his mind.
Just then, a voice behind Joe said, "Are you Jack Sparrow?"
