Chapter 291
Isabella's eyes went wide when she realized her call was still connected. On the other end, Michael caught wind of Jasper's escape from the hospital.
"Well, darling," Michael's voice had a teasing edge, "looks like we've got bigger problems."
Isabella rubbed her face in frustration. "Damn it, I knew taking over the companies wouldn't be that easy! Get those two cops to come see me."
Knowing the police would soon be knocking on her door, Isabella hung up.
As the call ended, Michael's smile vanished. He quickly dialed Jerry.
"Find out how Jasper managed to escape," Michael ordered, his voice cold and furious.
Jasper's situation was complicated. Not only were the police involved, but there were also undercover agents disguised as patients or hospital staff keeping tabs on him.
These people were waiting for Jasper to wake up so they could squeeze information about the family's secrets or any embezzlements out of him.
Michael had his own people watching too, but it was clear they had slacked off, leading to delayed updates.
Jerry rushed to the hospital as soon as he got the call and chewed out all the subordinates who were supposed to be watching Jasper.
The subordinates hung their heads, taking the scolding in silence.
Jasper'd been lying in a coma in the hospital these days, and with the police guarding him, everything seemed so normal that over time, the guards grew bored and gradually slacked off.
In fact, not only did Michael miss the news, but the rest of the Williams Family, including John, only found out after the police showed up.
That day, everyone who had been watching Jasper got a serious dressing-down from their boss.
Soon, Michael got the full story of Jasper's escape.
According to the nurse who was changing his bandages, Jasper suddenly attacked her from behind while she was getting ready to help him.
Jasper knocked the nurse out, stripped her, put on her clothes, laid her in the bed, covered her with a blanket, and pretended he was still lying there.
Disguised as the nurse, Jasper walked out of the room and then the hospital.
Thanks to the police's negligence, no one noticed a thing.
When Michael heard about how Jasper had escaped, a deep sense of frustration washed over him. The whole thing had been too easy, proving that everyone had underestimated Jasper, giving him the perfect opportunity.
Michael drummed his fingers on the table, trying to figure out where Jasper would go next. He had set a trap in advance.
Jasper had gotten info from John about a human smuggler. Michael had his men replace that smuggler, so Jasper might reach out to him any minute now. All Michael had to do was sit tight and wait for updates.
After leaving the hospital, Jasper found an old homeless man, knocked him out with a rock, and stole his clothes.
Jasper ditched the tight nurse's uniform, put on the stolen clothes, and slipped away from the hospital grounds.
With no cash on him after busting out of the hospital, Jasper knew he'd have to get creative to get out of town.
He ducked into a quiet alley and rummaged through a trash can, finding a plastic pipe which he slipped into his pocket.
Jasper waited patiently until he spotted a young guy with glasses taking out the trash nearby.
Keeping his head low, Jasper pressed the plastic pipe against the guy's back.
"Don't move. Hand over your phone and wallet, or I'll shoot," Jasper growled.
The young guy froze, feeling the hard object against his back. He didn't want to risk finding out if it was a gun or a knife.
"Okay, okay, just don't hurt me," the guy stammered, shaking as he handed over his wallet and phone.
Jasper grabbed the wallet and phone, pocketed the wallet, and asked, "What's the password?"
The young guy told him, and Jasper knocked him out with a rock to the back of the head.
Not wanting the guy to be found too soon, Jasper dragged him into the alley and made a call at the entrance.
"Hope this number still works," Jasper muttered.
A gruff voice answered, "Who is this?"
Jasper grinned. "Are you the one John sent to pick me up?"
There was a pause, then the voice said, "Jasper? You got out of the hospital?"
Jasper took a deep breath. "No time for chit-chat. Can the deal with John still go down? Can you help me get outta here?"
"Absolutely. Mr. Williams paid well. I'll make sure you get out safely," the voice assured him.
Jasper pressed on, "Great. How do I contact you?"
The voice gave clear instructions, "At nine p.m., there's a boat at Sapphire Port heading to Lumaria. Look for a guy in a red beret. Tell him who you are. He's my guy, you can trust him."
Jasper memorized the details and hung up.
He was relieved he still remembered the contact info for the smuggler. Without it, he'd be stuck.
Suddenly, Jasper realized he had no idea how long he'd been out. What time was it? Did John get what he wanted?
He quickly searched for news about the Taylor Family on the phone, focusing on Isabella. All he found were rumors about Isabella and Mason, with nothing about any changes in the family's shareholders.
