Chapter 54

Isabella shot Amelia an awkward glance. She'd never whipped up such a fancy meal for her before, mostly because this time, all the ingredients were top-notch, courtesy of John.

"I didn't buy this stuff. We kinda lucked out thanks to some jerk," Isabella quickly spilled the beans about John's mess.

Amelia's jaw dropped. "Wait, my words are that powerful? How did I not know? Maybe I should buy a lottery ticket."

She immediately started making a wish on her phone. "Let me win the $50 million jackpot, let me win the $50 million jackpot, let me win the $50 million jackpot!"

Both of them leaned in, eyes glued to the phone as the lottery numbers were drawn. When the results popped up, they were both floored.

"Amelia, you didn't get a single number right. It's like you dodged all the winning ones on purpose," Isabella chuckled, giving Amelia a pat on the shoulder.

Amelia, looking grim, muttered, "Does my mouth only predict bad stuff? Should I say we're gonna run into Pearl or that witch Bianca next?"

Just as she said that, a familiar car pulled up in front of the Williams Group building. Isabella and Amelia watched in disbelief as Pearl stepped out and walked into the building.

"Should I predict Pearl's gonna get hurt or something?" Amelia whispered.

Rolling her eyes, Isabella grabbed the lunchbox. "You keep predicting; I'm off to deliver food to Michael."

Amelia suddenly stopped her. "Pearl's still upstairs. Aren't you worried about bumping into her?"

Isabella shook her head. "She's probably here to see John's uncle. Michael's on a different floor, so no worries."

After calming Amelia down, Isabella headed to the Williams Group building. She asked the security guard for directions to the product development department and hopped into the elevator.

What she didn't know was that Michael had set up an office in product development to keep up his lie, turning his original office into a rest area.

As Isabella got closer to Michael's office, she heard a woman's voice inside. "This ring is gorgeous. It fits perfectly."

She instantly recognized the voice as Pearl's. Remembering the lipstick mark on Michael's chest, she angrily pushed the door open, startling Pearl.

Thinking it was Michael, Pearl snapped, "What are you doing here? This isn't a place for you."

Isabella ignored her, eyes locked on the diamond ring on Pearl's finger.

"Where'd you get that ring? Why are you here?" Isabella's questions left Pearl momentarily speechless.

A mocking smile spread across Pearl's face. "I'm wearing it, aren't I? Isn't it obvious? Just like you guessed, he gave it to me."

Isabella's face went pale, thinking the ring on Pearl's finger was a gift from her husband, Michael.

Pearl looked smug, hoping Isabella would think the ring was a gift from John's uncle, Michael.

Both women were thinking about the same guy, but they didn't know each other's identities, leading to a pretty clever misunderstanding.

Fuming, Isabella turned and stormed out, leaving a confused Pearl behind.

"She just left like that? Did I win? Why was it so easy this time?" Pearl found it incredibly hard to believe and muttered to herself.

"Well, it's good that she left. This ring is really beautiful. Too bad I don't know who Michael intends to give it to," Pearl said, still talking to herself and even reaching for her phone to snap a pic of the ring.

A cold voice suddenly cut through the air behind her. "You don't need to know who my ring is for. From the moment you put it on, that finger of yours no longer has a reason to exist."

Pearl spun around, startled, to find Michael standing close behind her. His gaze was locked on the ring, and beneath his quiet stare, Pearl sensed a storm brewing.

Michael couldn't believe someone had dared to touch his ring while he was away for just a moment.

"Wait. This ring..." Pearl tried to explain, desperately trying to pull it off, but it seemed stuck on her finger like it was welded there.

Panicking, Pearl's inner turmoil grew, and Michael suddenly grabbed the ring and yanked it forcefully, causing Pearl to scream as her finger got scratched.

"You don't deserve to wear it; you don't need that finger anymore." Michael, in a fit of rage, grabbed the finger on which Pearl had just worn a ring and twisted it forcefully.

With a slight sound of a bone breaking, Pearl's finger was dislocated. She screamed in pain, rolling on the office floor.

"This isn't fair. Isabella also touched this ring just now. Why don't you cut off her hand?" Pearl's mind was very malicious. Even at this moment, she wanted Isabella to share her misfortune.

"Isabella was here?" Michael's heart suddenly tightened. He quickly left Pearl behind and rushed towards the elevator.

When Michael got outside the building, he saw Isabella driving away. Michael quickly ran up and tapped on Isabella's car window. "Isabella, why are you here?"

Isabella, still fuming, didn't give Michael a chance to explain. She stepped on the gas and drove forward quickly. To her shock, Michael actually climbed onto her car.

"Are you crazy? Are you out of your mind?" Startled, Isabella quickly hit the brakes, causing Michael to fall off the car due to inertia.

"You're a lunatic," Isabella yelled angrily at Michael, even kicking him.

However, Michael just smiled at Isabella, noticing the lunchbox on the passenger seat.

"Did you come here specifically to bring me dinner?" Michael asked with a grin.

"You're overthinking it. It's for Amelia, who didn't have dinner tonight. I just came to see you on the way," Isabella said, not bothering to look at Michael's displeased face after saying that.

Isabella waved to Amelia, who was standing across the street. When Amelia came over, Isabella handed her the lunchbox.

"You haven't eaten, right? Hurry up and eat," Isabella urged.
