Chapter 113
Lucas felt a twinge of regret as something important suddenly hit him.
Before Michael and Isabella came to this country, Michael had warned Lucas not to reveal his true identity. Michael was pretending to be the son of a regular businessman here, which meant he wasn't supposed to attend this tech exhibition.
Lucas asked cautiously, "Isabella, why do you want to go to the tech exhibition?"
Isabella initially wanted to spill her real reason, but remembering Michael's jealousy, she decided to switch up her story.
"I want to check out the design of those tech products. It would be super helpful for my future career," Isabella said with a smile. As a designer, this explanation made perfect sense.
Lucas frowned a bit. If that was all she wanted, he could probably swing it.
Seeing Lucas's expression change, Isabella frowned and asked, "Is this a problem for you? You just promised me. Are you going to back out?"
Lucas scratched his head awkwardly. He didn't want to piss off Michael but he really wanted Isabella's help with designing his car's look.
Suddenly, Lucas slapped his thigh as an idea hit him. "Isabella, all the invitations have already been handed out, so I can't get you a new one. But I can sneak you in. However, you can only stay until 3 PM, because after that, security will start checking invitations."
Isabella frowned. "Why such a weird rule?"
Lucas shrugged. "It's a special rule to deal with industrial espionage. You have to follow it, or we'll both get kicked out."
Isabella nodded. If that was the case, she could roll with it.
A smile spread across Lucas's face. In reality, there was no such rule at the exhibition. He wanted Isabella to leave by 3 PM because that was when Michael would be giving a speech. As long as Isabella didn't see Michael, he wouldn't be breaking his promise.
After hashing out the details, Lucas drove Isabella to the tech exhibition.
Once inside, they found the place packed with tech enthusiasts.
The tech products on display included both items for sale and concept prototypes designed to attract investors for mass production.
Isabella carried a pen and notebook, preferring to jot down her observations. She walked up to various products, noting down their packaging designs and trying to reverse-engineer the concepts behind them to draw inspiration.
Lucas stuck by Isabella at first to avoid any surprise run-ins with Michael.
However, Lucas soon got drawn in by the innovative concept prototypes. The one that caught his eye the most was a concept maglev car. Its futuristic, mech-inspired design lines sparked a strong interest in him.
Guys, at heart, stayed young forever. The appeal of a mech was irresistible. Not even a scantily clad woman could rival it.
Isabella was so focused on product designs that she lost track of time. Soon it was 3 PM. Lucas, equally engrossed, had also forgotten about the plan.
The exhibition hall was massive, and eventually, Isabella and Lucas got separated. She wandered into a new section.
Recognizing the company logo on the booth, Isabella realized it was John's uncle's company. She decided to wait for his appearance, not knowing that John's uncle was actually Michael.
Behind the booth, Jerry was adjusting his suit. He was one of the product presenters. Just as he was about to step out, he quickly retreated, looking alarmed.
Standing behind him was Michael, who frowned at his reaction.
"What are you doing? Get out there!" Michael said impatiently.
Jerry nervously pointed towards the booth. "Mr. Williams, I can't. I saw Mrs. Williams standing in front of the booth!"
Michael's heart skipped a beat. He hid behind Jerry and peeked out, only to be shocked.
"Damn it, why is Isabella here? Who the hell let her in?" Michael angrily clenched his fists.
"Mr. Williams, what should we do? It's time for your presentation," Jerry said anxiously, checking his watch.
Michael frowned, feeling equally flustered. This new tech product showcase was crucial for their company.
Suddenly, Michael glanced at their new product and seemed to get an idea. He whispered something in Jerry's ear, making Jerry's eyes widen.
"Mr. Williams, are you sure about this?" Jerry asked hesitantly.
Michael pushed him out. "Stop talking and do as I say!"
Jerry nodded, took a deep breath, and put on a mask before heading to the booth.
Meanwhile, Michael instructed the staff, "Put this new product on me, quickly!"
Standing in front of the booth, Isabella held her notebook and frowned at the man before her.
This man was Jerry, now wearing a mask.
Since Isabella hadn't interacted much with Jerry, only catching glimpses of him with Michael a couple of times, she didn't realize it was him behind the mask, even though he looked kind of familiar.
'Wasn't John's uncle supposed to be here? Why hasn't he shown up?' Isabella wondered, craning her neck to look behind the booth. Suddenly, a man dressed in black protective gear and wearing a black helmet stepped out.
Michael looked like a futuristic soldier as he stepped towards the booth.
Jerry, holding a microphone, gestured towards Michael and announced loudly, "This is our new tech protective gear! To demonstrate its protective capabilities, our company's president will personally showcase it!"
The crowd around the booth cheered and applauded.
Isabella's mouth twitched, and she thought, 'How am I supposed to know what your president looks like if he's wrapped like that?'
At that moment, Lucas, who had been engrossed in the levitation car, suddenly remembered his plan. Checking his watch, he was horrified.
"Damn it, it's already 3:10. Isabella might have already met Michael!" Lucas's voice trembled with fear as he rushed towards the booth.
