Chapter 382
Daphne's face was a bit tight. John had moved her over to Bianca's team, and she was well aware of the beef between Bianca and Isabella. She'd also heard that John didn't want Bianca to keep butting heads with Isabella.
Bianca could read Daphne's mind from her hesitant look.
With a slight smile, Bianca asked, "Ms. Rose, do you know why I picked you when John suggested you as my assistant?"
Daphne shook her head, honestly clueless.
When John was picking an assistant for Bianca, he showed her a bunch of resumes. Bianca took her time and eventually chose Daphne. John was confused since Daphne's resume wasn't anything special.
Bianca smiled again and said, "You should know there were plenty of candidates with fancy degrees, while you're just a girl from the sticks. Even though you work hard and have some recommendations, have you ever thought that without me, your whole career would be just another office job, sharing a cheap apartment, and maybe not even affording the handbags you like?"
Daphne swallowed hard, knowing Bianca was right. In this world, hard work alone doesn't cut it without connections and a bit of luck.
Seeing Daphne's reaction, Bianca continued with a smile, "I know what you're worried about, and you might have even thought about telling John what I asked you. But then what? Do you think he'll thank you? Or give you a promotion?"
Daphne's face went pale; she had indeed thought about it.
Bianca walked over to Daphne and whispered in her ear, "Even if you tell John, what difference will it make? I'm his beloved, carrying his child. He won't blame me. But if you cross me, what do you think will happen to you?"
Daphne's legs started to shake.
"Alright, don't freak out. I'm not a monster." Bianca laughed, covering her mouth, and then sat back down.
"I asked you about my sister not to target her. She's my competitor now, and we need to take market share from her. It's just business." Bianca smiled faintly.
Daphne felt a bit relieved hearing that. At least Bianca's reasons seemed legit.
"The spokesperson for Isabella's company has ended their contract, and they're looking for a new one. Rumor has it they want to get Ms. Foster as their new spokesperson," Daphne said.
Bianca tapped her fingers on the table. She knew Estella. If Bianca ended up marrying John, Estella would be her aunt.
Bianca asked Daphne to dig up some info on Estella.
After hearing what Daphne found, Bianca smiled and said, "Looks like Estella would be perfect as our spokesperson."Daphne was caught off guard. Wasn't this all about competing with Isabella for a spokesperson? And yet, Bianca claimed it wasn't about targeting Isabella.
For now, Daphne decided not to tell John about this. After all, the spokesperson decision wasn't hers to make. Even if John got upset, he'd go to Bianca, not her.
"Go find out how much Isabella plans to offer Estella as a spokesperson," Bianca said calmly.
Daphne nodded and left the office.
Meanwhile, Isabella had no clue what Bianca was plotting. If she did, she'd probably laugh, because she never even considered Estella for their spokesperson.
Right now, Isabella was in her office, listening to Carol's report on the spokesperson search.
"I looked into it like you asked, and Estella's already signed on for several endorsements with the Brown Family, including cosmetics and cars," Carol reported.
Isabella nodded, not surprised. She had a hunch this was the case.
"Tell me something new. Have you found any suitable celebrities?" Isabella asked.
Carol sighed, "Honestly, I can't find anyone good. The ones I like are already tied up with other clothing brands, and the rest just don't cut it."
Isabella frowned. "What about that pretty actress from the recent movie, Susan? She hasn't endorsed any clothing brands, right?"
Carol smirked. "Do you know Susan is the mistress of a high-ranking member of one of the Big Four families?"
Isabella paused and started searching for other female celebrities on her phone.
"What about this one, Malinda?" Isabella asked.
"She's a drug addict, and I doubt she can keep it under wraps much longer," Carol said indifferently.
Isabella kept asking about more female celebrities, but Carol shot them all down.
"Ms. Taylor, you should buy a lottery ticket. Every celebrity with a scandal, you've mentioned," Carol joked.
Isabella scratched her head in frustration. "Is the entertainment industry really this messed up now?"
Carol shrugged. "I know even worse stuff. Want to hear?"
Isabella shook her head. She hadn't eaten yet and didn't want to lose her appetite.
"Seems my husband was right. The entertainment industry is really chaotic now. Should I really do what he suggested?" Isabella mused, tapping her forehead.
Curious, Carol asked, "Did your husband give you advice? Care to share?"
"He suggested I become the company's spokesperson," Isabella said, sharing Michael's suggestion from last night.
Isabella looked at Carol, wanting her opinion, and saw a serious look in Carol's eyes.
"I think your husband is right," Carol suddenly said.
