Chapter 322
Tanner was fuming. Just a few minutes ago, their gang stumbled upon a big lead: someone had spotted Jasper hanging around a jewelry store.
With this hot tip, the local gang quickly tracked down the hotel where Jasper was crashing.
Jay Belle, the Davis Family's rep, was a tall, skinny middle-aged guy with glasses. He adjusted his specs and shot a glance at the woman next to him. The woman, Hadley Ruth, had short hair and looked pretty average. She was the Brown Family's rep.
"Ms. Ruth, got any thoughts?" Jay asked Hadley.
"If I remember right, Mr. Brown said since your gang found Jasper, we're just here to back you up," Hadley replied with a faint smile.
Hadley remembered Paxton's stern warning before she left: don't expect anything useful from Jasper. Her job was to lay low and watch the other three families tear each other apart.
Tanner shot Hadley a look and grumbled, "You and your boss are both cowards."
Hadley gave Tanner a cold stare and slowly reached for her gun.
Jay noticed the tension and quickly stepped in. "Alright, we do want to nab Jasper fast, but we need to check out what the Williams Family is up to first."
Even though Jay said this, he sighed inwardly. All three families knew that, despite appearances, they had secretly sent people to track Jasper down. They all wanted to find him first and squeeze the secret of family revival out of him.
Just then, someone knocked on the door and rushed in. "Madam, sirs, just got word that members of another gang have been spotted near Jasper's place."
After the informant left, the three of them got serious.
They weren't idiots. The sudden appearance of another gang's members could only mean the Williams Family was pulling the strings.
"Looks like the Williams Family made a move and found Jasper. But are these guys under John or Mason?" Jay asked.
Tanner waved impatiently, "It doesn't matter which side they are. They're all enemies. Shoot them on sight. No rules here."
Hadley glanced at Tanner, her eyes mocking but not disagreeing, clearly on board with the plan.
Jay sighed softly. He wasn't thrilled about going head-to-head with the Williams Family, especially with killing involved. The Davis Family usually played it safe, with few extremists.
Among the four families, the Larson Family was the most extreme and hot-headed. Tanner's reaction showed he and Anthony were cut from the same cloth.
"Alright, let's move. We need to find Jasper before the Williams Family does," Jay ordered. As the cooperative face of the three families, he was the best fit to lead.
On the flip side, Tim managed to convince the repair shops with a hefty wad of cash to gold-plate all the cars he bought overnight.
Right then, Michael's crew showed up at Tim's place.
Tim had the cars driven to the warehouse and used forklifts to haul the gold-plated cars away.
To make it all look legit, Tim even swapped out the tires on the gold-plated cars with new ones. Now, even if Jasper stood right in front of them, he wouldn't suspect a thing. No need to worry about the smell difference between new and old cars; the place already reeked enough.
After the switch, Tim had the real gold cars shipped near the dock and got in touch with an export manager. Using his connections, the cars were loaded into containers. Before long, Isabella and the crew would get this shiny gift.
Tim sent a few guys to the smuggling ship to keep an eye on the cars, making sure they didn't get discovered.
Once everything was set, Tim gathered everyone. He grinned and said, "Alright, this mission ain't over yet. Remember, we still need a witness to prove these things are public funds."
The witness Tim was talking about was Jasper. They needed to bring back the public funds and Jasper, who was now a wanted man and could fetch a nice bounty.
Meanwhile, the four families had started digging into Jasper's whereabouts.
Jasper had just left the wealthy district and finally found a rich guy who could buy all that gold at once.
"Sweet, I can finally ditch this broke life! Once I get the cash, I'm getting a gold tooth, hiring a hitman to take out those who messed with me, and finding some women! I'm so done with Mia's wrinkled body." Jasper whistled happily as he got to his place.
Jasper planned to grab his car keys from his room and have the rich guy's people pick up the gold cars.
But as he reached the door, he froze.
Jasper had always been cautious because the security sucked here. Every time he went out, he'd leave a hair stuck in the door.
When he got to the door, he saw the hair on the ground, meaning someone had been in his room.
Jasper had already put the keys in the lock, but he pulled them out.
"Damn it, how could I leave such an important thing outside?" Jasper pretended to have lost something and quickly walked away.
Just as he was about to leave, the door behind him swung open, and a voice roared.
"Jasper, don't even think about running. You're coming back with us."
