Chapter 438
The whole family was stunned when they saw the gunmen.
Damian snapped, "Paxton, what the hell are you doing? We're your family!"
"Family? Really? Have you ever treated me like family? Or am I just a tool to you?" Paxton sneered, his lips curling in a bitter smile.
"I've got it all figured out now. Just sit tight and don't make a fuss. When my guys catch the killers, you can go. But if you try anything, don't blame me for not caring about family," Paxton warned, his voice icy.
Damian was shaking with anger, but he wasn't exactly brave, especially with Paxton threatening him. He didn't dare say a word and just found a spot to sit down.
The rest of the family exchanged nervous glances, too scared to move or speak. They sat down quietly, doing as Paxton said, waiting to see what would happen next.
Once everyone settled down, Paxton's gaze softened as he looked over at Pearl in the coffin.
Suddenly, Paxton's phone rang. He answered it, his expression darkening.
"Isabella's husband showed up, huh? Keep tailing them and find a chance to take them out," Paxton ordered into the phone. It was the sniper on the other end.
The family members around him couldn't help but worry after hearing Paxton's words. They were concerned that the people Paxton wanted dead were from the four major families. The Brown Family, being the weakest, could be wiped out because of this.
But even though they were worried, no one dared to step up and stop Paxton. The guy had clearly lost it.
Some of the smarter Brown Family members had already figured out why Paxton was losing it.
Maybe it was when Paxton found out the diary he had pinned his hopes on was fake, or maybe he discovered betrayal within the family. He had given so much to them, but they wouldn't lift a finger to help him. Some even used his love and guilt as a father against him. For any normal man, that was too much to bear.
Paxton pulled out his phone and made another call. "Whatever it takes, find those two," he said.
There was a response on the other end, and faint roaring could be heard.
After leaving the clothing factory, Isabella and Michael hurried towards downtown, where they'd be safe.
As they got closer to downtown, a loud rumble echoed down the road.
Two massive trucks were barreling down the road, side by side, heading straight for Michael and his team.
The huge trucks completely blocked the road, forcing Michael's team to quickly reverse their cars. The convoy was in chaos. Some people jumped out and tried to shoot the truck tires, but the tires were too thick for bullets to pierce.
"Damn it, our cars are too close together. We can't turn around. Mr. Williams, Mrs. Williams, you go first, we'll cover you!" Michael's subordinate yelled, jumping out of the car and positioning it across the road to block the trucks.
Isabella followed closely behind Michael. Anger flashed in Michael's eyes, but he knew there was no time to worry about his men's safety now. If he and Isabella stayed, they'd just be a burden.
"Come on, babe, let's go." Michael grabbed Isabella's hand, jumped into the last car in the convoy, and sharply turned the wheel to head in another direction.
The two heavy trucks barreled towards the blocking cars.
The wheels crushed the first and second cars, turning them into scrap metal. Luckily, the people inside had already gotten out.
Those who had left the cars raised their guns and fired at the trucks, but the reinforced bodies were bulletproof.
"Damn it, how did Paxton get these trucks?" someone shouted in frustration.
After smashing through five cars, the trucks finally stopped before reaching the sixth.
Even though the trucks stopped, the drivers didn't get out. Instead, they pressed a button, and the back of the trucks opened, releasing a swarm of armed men.
These men, armed to the teeth, started shooting at Michael's team.
Michael's men only had regular pistols and bulletproof vests. Faced with the enemy's heavy firepower, they could only hide behind vehicles to avoid the bullets.
"Paxton wants to kill us all here! Use our secret weapon!" one of Michael's subordinates shouted, pulling a grenade from his waist.
Michael's men had been fighting alongside him for a long time. In the chaotic foreign lands, these guys were tough, and grenades were more effective than bullets. But in the country, grenades were strictly controlled.
But now wasn't the time to worry about that. The enemy's firepower was so intense that if they didn't use the grenades, they'd all be dead soon.
As the first grenade landed among the enemy, Paxton's men panicked and scattered, but the grenade exploded in a crowded area, taking several lives.
With the first grenade came the second, then the third...
Paxton's men hadn't expected Michael's team to have grenades, leading to heavy casualties.
Like sniper rifles, grenades were also banned in family fights.
Since the battle was near the town, some passersby noticed and called the police.
When Police Chief Alan heard about the brutal situation, he almost kicked his desk over in anger.
"A bunch of damn idiots, using heavy weapons near the city. They have no respect for the law!" Alan immediately left his office and started gathering his team to rush to the scene.
