Chapter 239
After John got Bianca back to the villa, he wasted no time and called someone to handle the body.
When the cops arrived to investigate, they shrugged off Daron's death as a case of bad luck due to his trespassing. Considering John's influence, they just threw a few routine questions before hauling Daron's body off.
As soon as Daron's body hit the police station, the Brown Family got the news.
"What did you say? He's dead?" Paxton yelled, punching the wall so hard he left a bloody mark.
On the other end of the line, the butler Jonah glanced at the body covered with a white sheet and nodded reluctantly. "Yeah, he's dead. The officer who brought the body back said this guy was sneaking around Bianca's villa, trying to hurt her, but John caught him and shot him."
"We just started looking into this, and now he's dead? What are the odds?" Paxton sneered.
Jonah, still holding the phone, asked seriously, "Mr. Brown, could Isabella be involved? There's been talk about Bianca and Isabella fighting over company shares, right?"
Paxton chuckled, shaking his head. "Not likely. If Isabella wanted Bianca out of the picture, she'd have done it by now. But you might be onto something, so let's look into Isabella too."
After Paxton hung up, Jonah sighed and started making the necessary arrangements.
Meanwhile, Isabella finally convinced Mia to spill the beans on Jasper's embezzlement.
Facing a swarm of reporters, Mia tearfully admitted, "My husband has been stealing money and sending it to Azure Bank overseas. Only he knows the password. He left me to deal with the mess alone. I'm done with him. I know I've done wrong, and I hope everyone can forgive me."
In front of the cameras, Mia played the part of a helpless wife oppressed by her husband, blaming Jasper for everything, including forcing Isabella to marry John and framing Isabella.
Isabella stayed in the background, listening to Mia's sob story with a blank expression. As long as Mia exposed Jasper's embezzlement and got him locked up, Isabella didn't care about her act.
Just then, Isabella's phone rang. She frowned at the unfamiliar number, probably someone she had blocked before.
When she answered and heard John's voice, her suspicion was confirmed.
"Isabella, I never thought you could be so heartless!" John practically shouted into the phone.
Isabella's eyebrows knitted in annoyance at John's tone. "Are you manic? What nonsense are you talking about?" she snapped back.
John kept shouting, "This is your last warning. If you want Jasper's shares, compete fairly with Bianca instead of sending someone to kill her!"
Isabella paused, wondering if John had misunderstood again, then smirked. "Are you stupid? Isn't framing others and shifting blame Bianca's specialty? She probably hired someone to attack herself just to frame me and get you all riled up. Can't you see through such a basic setup? You're a real idiot," she mocked.
"The guy who attacked Bianca has already been dealt with by me. Do you really think Bianca would do that?" John shot back coldly.
Isabella paused, surprised that the attacker had already been taken out. Had Bianca really become so ruthless?
"Enough. I don't know what's going on in your head, but let me tell you, neither I nor my husband sent anyone to kill Bianca. That's the truth. If you don't believe me, have the police investigate. I'm busy, don't call me again. My husband might get the wrong idea," Isabella said before hanging up and blocking the number.
On the other end, John angrily threw his phone out of the helicopter window, watching it splash into the river below. He was taking Bianca somewhere safe to avoid any more trouble.
"John, I don't really think it was Isabella either. My reputation online hasn't been great lately, so maybe someone bought into the gossip and wanted to mess with me," Bianca said, holding his hand to reassure him.
Bianca wasn't defending Isabella to seem meek in front of John. She was worried that if John kept digging, he'd find out about her connection to Daron.
If John discovered she had once sent someone to kill Isabella's parents, he'd be furious and blame her for not telling him such a crucial detail.
Soon, the helicopter landed at a heavily guarded estate.
Originally a birthday gift for Bianca, the estate was now their safe haven.
Bianca was relieved; after the recent scare, she was exhausted. Once she and John got to the bedroom, she quickly fell into a deep sleep.
Meanwhile, Jasper, who had been missing, finally escaped the development zone and was looking for a phone to call John.
But when Jasper finally found someone willing to lend him a phone and was about to dial, he realized he didn't remember John's number at all.
In this day and age, with everyone having their contacts saved in their phones, who even bothers to remember phone numbers anymore?
