Chapter 164
Isabella's face turned icy as she stared at Odette.
"Hasn't anyone told you that Madeline's last assistant got shipped off to Evernia for running her mouth? This is your last warning. I got this director gig because of my skills, not connections! How dare you bring gossip to me? You wanna end up in Evernia too?" Isabella's cold glare made Odette instinctively step back.
"Go back and tell Madeline I have the power to fire every single one of you! Cross me again, and you'll face the consequences," Isabella said, then stormed back to her office.
Odette clenched her fists, glaring at Isabella with pure hatred.
"Just wait. Let's see how long you can keep that attitude. You bitch, you'll regret this!" Odette muttered under her breath.
The other colleagues in the office looked at Odette with mocking and disdainful eyes.
In the workplace, picking sides was risky business, often resulting in conflict. Even if you did, you shouldn't mess with your superiors.
A smart person wouldn't act like Odette. But her situation was different. She was tight with Madeline's former assistant, Thea, and had been one of Madeline's followers in college. Naturally, she was part of Madeline's crew.
Odette harbored a secret crush on John, a wealthy and handsome heir, though she knew he'd never notice her.
Isabella, as John's ex-girlfriend-or rather, ex-fiancée-naturally became the target of Odette's jealousy. What drove Odette even crazier was that Isabella actually turned down such an amazing guy, which made her even more resentful.
So, Odette's behavior was more extreme than Thea's. And Madeline didn't care to stop any of it. As Isabella had pointed out, Madeline didn't bother to discipline her subordinates.
Meanwhile, Isabella opened her office door to find John sitting in her chair. Beside him stood three men in suits.
"Who let you into my office? This is my private space," Isabella said coldly as she walked up to John.
John waved his hand casually, "Technically, you're borrowing our space! This company was founded by my uncle, so it's part of our family's business. As the family heir, what's wrong with me sitting here?"
Isabella's lips curled into a mocking smile. "If I'm not mistaken, you're not one of the shareholders of this company, are you?"
John's smile stiffened. When Michael founded this company, he didn't include any members of the four major families. John, as a family heir, was the first to be excluded.
John didn't want to argue with Isabella over this. He pointed to the three men beside him and said, "I brought this PR team to help you. They're industry-leading, with a 90%+ satisfaction rate, and I trust them to handle this crisis."
Isabella shook her head. "Tell your grandfather thanks, but I don't need it. My husband already hired a PR team for me."
"Your husband? You mean the driver who dropped you off? What kind of PR team can he hire? Are you sure he hasn't been scammed?" John retorted with a mocking laugh.
The three PR guys in the office also smirked. They were there to help Isabella at John's request, but that didn't mean they worked for her. Naturally, they didn't need to show her any respect. Besides, Isabella might have to follow their instructions in the future.
Isabella frowned but quickly realized John had mistaken the driver, Leo, for her husband.
Leo, who had just parked the car, suddenly shivered.
"Damn, why do I have a bad feeling? Is someone planning to mess with me?" Leo muttered, looking around cautiously.
"The person you mentioned is just a driver assigned to me by the company," Isabella said, denying John's assumption. She didn't want him to trouble Leo.
"Are you kidding me? This company doesn't provide drivers." John sneered, clearly not believing Isabella.
Isabella frowned, thinking, 'The company didn't assign a driver? What's going on?'
"Alright, enough joking around. The PR team your husband hired is probably cheap and incompetent. You should trust the team I found. They're very famous in the industry! If you follow their guidance, they can definitely pull you out of this mess!" John said, shrugging as he stood up from the office chair and walked over to Isabella.
"You don't need to thank me this time. Just make sure to join me for dinner once this is all over," John added, reaching out to touch Isabella's chin.
Isabella stepped back and said coldly, "Don't push me, John. One more step, and I'm filing a sexual harassment complaint. Go find Bianca if you want a woman!"
John's eyes flashed with a hint of displeasure as Isabella dodged him. "Bianca went to Lumaria for a kidney transplant. You're lucky; she won't need your kidney anymore."
Isabella's eyes widened instantly. "What did you say? Bianca went to Lumaria?"
Isabella was shocked by this news and quickly realized that her plan to have Benjamin investigate Bianca's health was no longer feasible. That vicious woman must have sensed something! By the time Bianca returned from Lumaria, she would be completely 'recovered,' leaving no reason to check her health.
"She's your cousin. Shouldn't you be happy that she's getting better?" John asked, frowning.
Isabella's lips curled into a cold smile. "So, you conveniently forgot what I said before. You didn't even bother to check if Bianca and I are compatible for a kidney transplant! Don't you find it strange she didn't ask you to go to Lumaria with her? If you're so smart, why haven't you investigated whether she actually had a transplant or just a vacation?"
